There seems to be a huge uptick in incorrect usage of apostrophes on ATS and elswhere. Stuff like: "I have three dog's in my house." I'm willing to cut people a certain amount of slack on "its/it's" confusion, but there is no excuse for random apostrophes in plural nouns, etc.

One hypothesis: It could be due to increased usage of iPhones, iPads, and similar devices that make excessive use of auto-fill. I notice that my phone frequently inserts apostrophes where they shouldn't be unless I go out of my way to stop it from doing so.

Another hypothesis: I'm a cranky old left-brained word fetishist.

I have seen it, but am way too obsessed with the misuse of "there" and "their".
No, they are not interchangeable.

And "I seen". Once I see "I seen", the poster's content must be extraordinary for me to continue reading.

Sorry. Didn't mean to detract from the original post.

I SAW an opportunity to vent about THEIR misuse of fifth grade grammar. IT'S rampant.

****Rant does not include those for whom English is a second language.
