Fire threatens Olympic Village

HUNDREDS of firefighters battled a forest fire in northern Athens today that threatened at least two suburbs of the city, including one that is home to the newly built Olympic Village.

"We are facing very strong winds and many sources of fire. We are working in dangerous conditions. We are using all the means at our disposal and are fighting it from land and air."

I don't know ms_Bhavn,
It's 36c and there's a forest next door. I saw some footage on telly and the plume of smoke
appeared to be rising. That would indicate light winds. It may be arson, or tree branches
over power lines et al.
