It seems that no one can agree on what the word “progressive” actually means.

Books have been written on that one simple word. Even the Progressive’s themselves can’t seem to agree.

We can start with the definition of the word perhaps this will give a framework.
Moving forward; advancing.
(Government, Politics & Diplomacy) (often capital) favoring or promoting political or social reform through government action, or even revolution.

Pathology tending to become more severe or wider in scope: progressive paralysis.
Advancing in severity, complexity, or extent (1)

Ok so we seem to have a basic framework to use so let’s see what we can find in recent history that might shed more light on the movement.

Progressivism

“Spanning roughly the first two decades of the twentieth century, was a reform movement through which Americans struggled to cope with a wide range of social, economic, and cultural changes. Progressives differed in their perceptions of the nature of the nation's problems and of how best to resolve them, but most shared the conviction that government at all levels must play an active role in reform.” (2)

It seems both history and the definitions of the word point us in the direction of a Movement, not sure which way to move, or how far to move, only that movement is necessary and that Government must be a means to that movement.

If this is the case then I am whole heartedly against the Progressive Movement. Movement with no clear direction is death. Ask any free hard working man.

I would think Progressives would be of the mindset that the Federal Government should be reined in and allow the states to be the laboratories they were envisioned to be by the founders. Places where citizens of the states try different solutions to the same problems. Where progress could be made step by step.

I think most on these forums are at least partially progressive with a touch of real conservatism. Not the fake conservatism where the government takes rights away, but where it protects our inalienable rights.

Progressive means, one who progresses. If you practice progress, you very well could be a progressive. Progress is one upping a state of life of which nothing improves or ever gets better.

But then one must ask, is progress relative?? Could progress be just as important to evil diabolical plans, as it is to truthful honor seeking good doers?. And being relative is their actually a difference between evil people with diabolical plans, and truthful honor seeking good doers? .. It is all relative. And confusing.

I went to school at a progressive hangout. Had progressive professors. Back when the movement was just getting off the ground.

Progressives set out to take over the democratic party in the US. They had their foot in the door and then took over. They are hard line marxists and the word progressive is a front word to hide thier agenda behind. Progressives felt the old line democrats were weak and slow. They are masters of what I call "front speech" which is a way of talking and word use that cleverly hides but sounds good from those that dont know the terms and what they really mean. "Change" is a common term and simply means democratic socalist agenda takeover.
Every hard core progressive student or professor that I knew in college was a hard Marxist. All of their code talk is just a way of hiding, unless you know the terms, marxist terms that would otherwise be noticed if used.

Before anyone gets on my # this was back in the day long before the several well known radio and tv guys were talking about this. Save for RL. However I set down and paid for the sessions at Marxist U and learned form the progressives themselves.
Carry on.

A PROGRESSIVE is a guy who takes money out of my pocket to give another guy who's a lazy b*****d and doesn't have as much as me.

Like Jesse James, except they use the threat of prison rather than a gun.

Of course.

Prime Minister Gillard's favourite words in our last election were "moving forward" and Obama's favourite word was "change". Neither of them said if their plans were for good or evil.

People bought it anyway, and will pay the price.

I know it is difficult, but you do realize that conservatives have had the White House for 48 out of the last 97 years, and they taxed you too. Right? I mean it's not like progressive democrats have a monopoly on taxation.

Today, Progressive means Socialist / Communist / Democratic Socialist (Democratic Socialist: Remember that term? You should, look at a map before 1988 and you will see that name used in almost every Soviet Bloc country)

They will tell you this in their own words, it is more "positive" to not say communist and use "progressive" or "left".

What does progressive mean?

It means that you're a liberal who's scared of being called a liberal. So you call yourself a progressive instead. It seems part and parcel with htis neurosis is a desire to give lip-service to "flavor of the month" cuases, provided they don't require any actual thought or activism on your part.

Case in point, progressives loudly support ending the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, because the decision is not in their hands, it's a popular stance, and it actually would change little. However I have met very few progressives who know about ENDA, an act would would forbid workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation. because unlike DADT, ENDA actually matters and getting it passed would require active effort.

In short, a progressive is what the folks on the right like to call a "limousine liberal."

I don't see the words "socialist" or "communist" anywhere. Progress is ummm, progress.

Oh, and funfact: The "Progressive Party" was an offshoot of the GOP.

A CONSERVATIVE is a guy who takes money out of your pocket to give another guy who's a lazy b*****d and has a whole lot more than you.

Like Televandelists, except they use the threat of starvation rather than hellfire.

We could play this all day. Wanna?

I would say that accurately describes both parties actually. Except the left pretends that all the money they are hoarding is going to the less fortunate.

Oh, Yeah

www.urbandictionary.com...

PROGRESSIVE:

One who advocates greater government regulation of just about anything. Progressives claim to want to help out the average Joe but really want everyone to live according to their politically correct, elitist socialist agenda. Progressives are also much nastier people than liberals, and are often hypocrites
If you claim to be such a progressive, then why do you send your kids to a private school?

A word left-wingers now use to describe themselves, because the word liberal has gained a negative connotation.

Now, Actually LOOK at the links. Who cares what a dictionary "definition" is when you have pictures and video. They will tell you EXACTLY who they are and what they are called.

Well I guess your urban dictionary trumps my actual dictionary. I mean, seriously, just because it shows up on a Google search, doesn't actually mean it has merit.

Hey, just don't lie to yourself or others. Communists / Socialists / Democratic Socialists ARE "Today's" Progressive Movement. I can post 100 links to support this with videos Telling you this. Do you have a single shred of evidence that the Progressive Movement is not the Communists / Socialists / Democratic Socialists?

No, didn't think so.

See, this is when debate becomes pointless...

I could now state that I am 600 feet tall and then make a random statement that I've got thousands of pieces of proof, while providing NOTHING at all to substantiate my claim, and then finish up with a rousing "Of course you can't dispute this because I am right. "

As to the "hundreds of videos" to prove it... Why would anyone need a video to prove the definition of a word or the history of a movement? What you would probably post is op-ed pieces by pundits. These prove nothing other than a persons opinions.

It may feel good to make these claims - as a means of trying to minimize the oppositions facts, but these random statements and straw men do thing to refute the evidence.
