Well Liberals are born with a birth defect and Conservatives are born scared. How is this even news?

So I guess to learn if your kid is going to grow up to be Conservative all you have to know is if he/she is overly afraid of things. Maybe your next scary story should be about the “Progressive federal officer carrying… papers!”

Anyone who buys into this authoritarian system is cowardly and afraid.

The whole notion of electing others to run your life comes from being afraid.

I could not agree with you more bro.

I feel that we should all be self-governing and free.

What the heck happened to the human race to allow them to become so seemingly helpless that they could no longer govern themselves?

Our ancestors certainly did it, for tens of thousands of years prior to this 'modern' paradigm.

This system as it is baffles me greatly. That's why I just kind of view it all with a detached indifference.

I have a feeling that eventually we will return back to the ways of old, but that may just be the native american in me thinking out loud.

The brain is plastic...mallable.

If the fear center is stroked consistently through given outlets that conservatives frequent, the fear center literally recieves more nutrients and blood and nueral pathways are built...it grows.

Same goes for too much of any view...Liberals might have overly developed "empathy" centers.

If we are to believe the study - a big if - it would not surprise me that conservatives have a larger anaylitical aspect to their brain in problem solving and that liberals would name that "fear."

Conservatives analyze proposed decisions and policy for it's unintended consequences before making a choice. I suppose you could call conjuring possible pitfalls in one's analysis of choices "fear." Liberals do not weigh the possible unintended consequences of their feel good proposals being more attracted to immediate gradification and emotions. Conservatives tend not to trust anyone or any one group with power over their basic needs (having seen the oppression of fascism, marxism and royality) while liberals trust the government to provide for them (i.e. socialist security which is bankrupt and health care which will soon be bankrupt based on the experience with social security and medicare).

This has been known a long time about conserveratives versus liberals.

Alright, I have a great argument on this.

What has kept man alive over the centuries? Has it been the trusting nature?

Or has it been fear? Fear of the known and unknown.

Think of it this way, how many times have you been watching a "supposed" scary movie and you say do NOT go in there?

Tell you what, I will go with the me answer, I say it all the time!

Also as another member brought up, being trustful was NOT so great an idea of the citizens under Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler etc etc etc.

Oooohhh, am I scared, or just not ignorant.

I read a similar study a couple of years ago. It was a psychological study, not a physical study of the brain.

The results were similar, though.

The difference was, they referred to conservatives as having a stronger "fight or flight" reaction to stimulus.

That's not necessarily all bad...

Now it makes sense why Fox News is hyping Obama as a Nazi Muslim Communist Fascist Kenyan, and why Al-Qaeda is always plotting another terror attack.

Errrghhh. I don't much faith in the human species. We're just energy being attracted and repelled according to the laws of the universe. It's like manipulating a magnet to attract to things.

If man acted like you suggest, we would have never left the jungle or civilized, we would have never explored the oceans or traveled into space.

There's a difference between healthy amounts of fear, (the proper word being caution) and the holy [snip] terror that FOX News tries to shove on people on a daily basis.

If you believe the Nimrods like Hannity, Beck, and the Morons & Retards Show (oops, I meant FOX and Friends) you would just live in your panic room while it fills up with your own waste.

I mean look at it this way, the agenda of FOX News is to promote fear:

Fear of Muslims
Fear of Gays
Fear of Obama
Fear of Democrats
Fear of Athiests
Fear of Latinos

And that's what they push. They want you to be afraid because it gives their masters the GOP more control over the population.

You can tell how FOX News promotes fear by the way they phrase things, one of the most popular phrases on FOX News is "Some people say". This is a catch all phrase that they can use in order to spout any kind of complete BS without getting in trouble for it. The mysterious "Some people" can say anything. As long as it promotes the agenda of FOX News to promote and disseminate fear.

Fear doesn't drive man, curiosity has driven man. If it weren't for curiosity, we all would still be living in Africa.
