Hollywood has always glorified war and combat. There is a certain romanticism that has been built up around the idea of the "noble warrior".
We all want to be John Wayne, Cary Grant or, to be a bit more modern, Bruce Willis or Tom Hanks. This may just be me, but it seems relatively
recently that the focus has been more on the horror of war (Saving Private Ryan) as opposed to the glorification of the grand mythos of war.
This is just my two cents.
