That is rather odd, I can't explain it rationally...and NASA apparently removed it from their gallery, that's enough for me to believe it's most probably something they don't want us to know about. Nice find indeed, flagged.

because the rover has been on mars for 6 years and if nasa can only get it a few hunderd feet from the platform in 6 years then its a waste of money for usa dont you think?

maybe it's like Google earth and the pictures are 6 years old.

Very nice find. Flag for you sir/ma'am. This clearly is NOT the landing platform or just some natural formation. In my opinion it looks to be an entrance possibly to a subsurface base or city. If this is indeed authentic then I guess I owe Richard C. Hoagland an apology, because for years I have been cursing his name for his Cedonia pyramid claims.

I think this is a hoax. The images are missing on the JPL site for that day. This is why the hoaxers have chosen Sol 2169 for their image....it gives them an alibi. If you look at different Sol days, the format is nothing like the one in the claimed screenshot.

Also according to NASA's Free Spirit site, Spirit was barely functioning due to...

On Sol 2169 (Feb. 8, 2010), the rover's last drive before winter changed the angles of its suspension system, but it did not produce a hoped-for improvement to the overall tilt of the solar array for catching winter sunshine. Drives since Sol 2145 (Jan. 15, 2010) moved Spirit 34 centimeters (13 inches) south-southeastward. However, a counterclockwise yawing of the rover during the drives prevented it from reducing its southerly tilt.

ETA: Mushrooms has nailed it already.

I saw this too but not sure what we're looking at.
The object in the background or the 'reflection" in the foreground???

If it's the object in the background then, what's beside it to the left and right then?

And why does it look like snow on the ground? I am very confused over this entire photo.
