A stunned Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) did not give the reason for the blast in the sky but an officer

I don't really have too much to comment and rather wait to see how this story will develope.

Right now, it seems they don't know what happened. To bad for India, I heard they were already planning a manned mission by 2016.

The second additional link here has a video, audio is in italian, but good for now I guess.

my thoughts are that it was shot down or sabatouged (sp.) by a bigger or competing country in order to keep india from from advancing.

Honestly, that crossed my mind at first. The second question would be in that case...who did it?

Man that is going to cost a FORTUNE for India. What a terrible set back for them, I am just glad they had it happen on this launch and not a manned mission. perhaps they will learn from their mistakes and have better success in the future.

No need to shoot a rocket to make it explode, there are many ways of sabotage, a bomb inside, software hacker, who knows. By other hand, I think not too long ago they had another rocket failure.

First thing that came to mind was the challenger disaster.

The GSAT-5P satellite was supposed to have a life span of over 13 years.

But it only lasted 2 seconds.

As Nelson Muntz would say: HAA HAA!

Yeh this is the third launch that has failed this year.

That's what happens when you ignore a billion starving stomachs.

I think all countries should only be allowed to launch into space on Guy Fawkes day / night.

Such a waste of a fireworks display.

This was always going to be a "priority" answer on ATS! Any sources or proof this? or just gut feelings?

Ok, now we can say :

1.- Indians don't fly.
2.- Reconsider buying an indian car for now.
3.- Those acient flying "vimanas" of the Sanskrit epics might not be true.

There's another thread already started on this in the 'Space Exploration' section

But yes...it is tragic.
If it was sabotaged, it certainly is infuriating.
These guys put hours of work into it and it's disgusting to see this occur (if it was a sabotage).
No matter..India will pick up their feet and continue with determination...and that always leads to success.
