"and to the republic for which it stands."
It makes me sick how some people are so blind and think we actually have a democracy. What makes me even sicker is how often I hear politicians say they want to spread our democracy to the world. Ugh don't make me puke, we don't have a democracy you lying sack of $%^&. They are spreading something over the world, but it sure ain't democracy. They spread corrupt "republics," and they make sure people who can be bought get in power first.
*** Another fact is the American people don't even vote for their president. Let me elaborate. They do "vote," but their vote literally doesn't count and it is purely for show. Just read the constitution. The electoral college is the only group that actually elects the president. It just so happens that most of the time, the people "vote" for who the electoral college wants to be president, which is bound to happen when only(usually) two people run for president. But the vote is still merely for show, just read the constitution.

Yeah, they are spreading oligarchy around the world, not democracy or republicanism. They let the top rich group take control/advantage of the poor. Republicanism is falling apart because most do not even hold true to the constitution which is what republicanism is based on in the first place!

They say they hate gays and they forget about the part which says each man is born equal...

They say they want to make people read the bible in school and they forget about the freedom of religion...

It seems like republicans = close minded Christians nowadays...

If republicanism doesn't shape up... oligarchy... elite... here we come!

The question is, are the elctions in the us real and swayed by interest groups who invest a lot of money in their candidates, or are they outright frauds, where your vote does nothing and the desired result is presented?

If No.1 is the case, then yes, you live in a democracy and its worth a lot of money to some people. If the results are as legitimate as those that confirmed sadam into power, then no, you dont live in a democracy.

Republicans = Democrats = TPTB

I was a business major until I dropped out of college because what I was learning did NOT reflect the reality of the business world and our governmental intrusion into our "democracy".

A democracy is defined by the open and easy ability to enter into market as a new business by new players. This is not a reality of doing business in the US of A. To put it simply; we are a population ruled by the few businesses that have enough money to lobby the politicians that vote on our laws, an oligopoly.

I wanted to own my own business when I was younger and more naive. I know that there are way to many regulations these days to make that a viable option now. Also, as a new entity, I could never amass the buying power to compete with wal-mart or walgreens or target or even your local grocery store chain. FML.

I wanted to start my own thread on this subject but I figured that there would be no love for such an honest subject and thus far I have been proven right. This is the biggest conspiracy of our government and school system (teaching that we are a democracy, or even a republic). WE ARE RULED BY AN ELITE FEW! FACT!!!

That goes for the rest of the world too...

S&F for you OP.

I wrote up an epic 180 some page thread/book and I even at one point deferred from what I was saying to make sure I made this point, we do not live in a democracy, we share some similar ideals, but anyone who talks about our democracy is a filthy liar. Sadly, I've heard many well informed people, and plenty of congressmen (get it, not informed), say that we live in a Democracy, even "democratic ideals" is sort of stretching it. A democracy would mean that we all literally voted on every issue, even with the internet this just isn't workable. Our Founding Fathers specifically chose not to make this a democracy because a democracy leads to what they called "majority tyranny", where minority groups can effectively be legislated into oblivion. They wanted everyone to be considered, so they allowed us to somewhat "democratically" elect a representative who would hopefully try to make everyone happy, rather than just the majority. Of course, this still creates "majority tyranny" and produces an elitist class of politicians and big business, so that instead of a majority tyranny, we have an extreme "sociapthic minority tyranny" which our "representatives" are beholden to. Mix in an extremely biased establishment mouthpiece, commonly known as the media, and a poorly educated citizen, and these people can get us to vote for anyone or back anything. This is when the second part of what we are comes in, we are a representative Republic, a Republic is simply put: putting the good of the whole before the good of the self. Oddly this sounds exactly what a socialist despot would say, but put into real action and we could live in a utopia with that single rule. But look at past Republics, Rome eventually dissolved into a military dictatorship, this shows just how close to tyranny any system is. What a Republic should be, is a government of the very well informed people, for the well informed people, by the extremely well informed people. But when our constitution clearly states that only Congress has the power to create money and on Christmas Eve we give that power away to a centralized and unregulated international bank of megalomaniacs and it isn't repealed, it's pretty simple to see that we don't live in a democracy or representative Republic, an oligarchy doesn't even do it justice, the best thing we could call it is the Illuminarchy. Populated at the very top, by aliens which for the most part, aren't even Humans, let alone us human beings. From the beginning our planet was controlled by the Gods, then by their human offspring, the Demi-Gods, even after them the Kings had "divine rule", so it's safe to say that our planet has just had many different versions of being controlled by monsters and in many cases, by literal ET monsters that nearly perfectly resemble our idea of the devil. So we have whatever you call that, I don't think they've come up with a name for it yet.

This is a ridiculous analyses and too rigid in its definitions. These forms of government all have elements of all of the forms of government in them. The best government is the one who balances these elements the best.

A Republic with laws is just the same as a “democracy” since it has laws as well.
America is a democracy in the sense that it has elections where the one with the most votes wins, and a republic in the sense it has laws or guiding principles.

Also, America was never been strictly a republic or democracy, it has always been mainly an Oligarchy.

Obviously, quite a few did not watch the video.

A democracy is a country strictly ruled by the people. If the major says something good or evil should be done, then it happens. Majority always rules. America is NOT a democracy and in my opinion democracy in this sense is unstable. It lets the majority take over the minority.

A republic is a country with a written law to follow with all of our rights. If America was a real republic, then we wouldn't have the government taking away our freedoms and adding new unconstitutional laws. They would be there just to enforce the constitution and nothing else. America used to be this way but clearly, America is NOT a republic anymore.

America is certainly not an anarchy, you would have to be delusional to believe that so let's just skip this argument...

America is an oligarchy. It's a country ran by a small group of rich people, also known as an "elite". They get to make the laws and we really have no say. We can not pick our own president, they give us candidates and let us pick from one of them, but the problem is... it was them who picked the candidates in the first place so in reality we aren't picking our president.

I really don't like how most Republicans today are Christians who wants to take away the rights from others. They claim to love the constitution but then they take away the rights of gays, and other religions by trying to get the bible to be in school. This is not true Republicans. Republicans believe in the republic - in the constitution of the United States of America and its government conserving it.

I cannot count the times that I have heard people incorrectly refer to the U.S. as a democracy, especially for hot issues such as gay marriage. "Majority rules." Yeah, how did that work out for George Bush's second term when he was NOT the winner of the popular vote? You would think after that major slap in the face that people would learn that we aren't living in a democracy, but it never fails that people say we are.

No, it's really not. And America is not a democracy in the sense it has elections, due to what I stated. Certain issues can be considered a democratic vote, however any issues that are held and infringe upon the Constitution or minority groups are seen as invalid issues. Hence the majority tyranny eventually loses.

Just an FYI: the US was set up as a Democratic Republic, a combination of what the founding fathers felt were the best parts of both a straight democracy and a representative republic. It has worked really well since the inception of our country.

That said, power always corrupts and that has been happening for far too long. We need to vote these career politicians out of office and get some real, honest to goodness, Americans in. Get some teachers, police officers, construction workers, hell some of us unemployed could sit in congress, earning a paycheck instead of unemployment and contributing to our country as well. Set up some term limits and severely restrict campaign contributions from the corporations. Just a few ideas rolling in my head.

Yes they did, and I'm sure they're rolling over in their graves right now considering that the vast majority of Americans think we're living in a Theocratic Democracy.

GREAT find. S&F

Timely, important. (I'm thinking about the North American Union.)

I'm ready to fight for the Bill of Rights, Constitution and the Republic. But.

...My longstanding concern remains. There exists a global corporate government, legitimized by "Free Trade" agreements, signed by most of our nations. We have given away most if not all of our power through these agreements.

The North American Union will be the clincher.

What do we do about that? How do we maintain a Republic against the power of a global corporate government?

...On a personal note: I became very ill about 10 years ago, cleaned out my savings, then cashed in my pensions. What I have is incurable and treatments are limited - so I didn't get better - finally, I had to ask for help and now live on government disability. I would like to work, and could manage about 3 hours a morning, 5 days a week on average - but this economy has no jobs that accommodate my abilities and limitations. Worse, people like me are legion - chronic disease is pandemic and the numbers of debilitated and disabled are rising by leaps and bounds. What do you see happening to me, and people like me?

I would postulate that the United States is now a Corporatocracy. Best government GE, Monsanto and the rest can buy. Screw the little people, long live maximum profits.

A little fun story. My (then) 9 year old took her 4th grade social studies test on the founding our our country. Under the question "The United States was founded as what type of government?" my daughter wrote "I'm putting "democracy" because it's in the book, but we're actually a constitutional republic.". I was pretty proud of her, and the teacher gave her full credit. She had learned the various forms of government when she picked up my copy of Animal Farm.

In practice, true. But under law, no.

...Seems to me it's time for people to use the law to defend the law. Or lose it.

...Use the Constitution to defend the Constitution and the Republic.

America is a corporate fascist oligarchy. PERIOD. Corporate is punishing us for not letting them steal more from the public.

US is the land of the free not the land of wall street.
