Father kills daughter after learning al-Qaida recruited her as suicide bomber

ca.news.yahoo.com

BAGHDAD - An Iraqi man killed his 19-year-old daughter after he discovered al-Qaida had recruited her as a suicide bomber in an area north of Baghdad, a police spokesman said on Friday.

Al-Qaida has been recruiting women for suicide attacks because they can pass police checkpoints easier than men by concealing explosives under an abaya, a loose, black cloak that conservative Muslim women wear. Suicide bombers have been al-Qaida's most lethal weapon in Iraq, killing hundreds of civilians and .

No charges have been filed.... yet.

What do you believe the punishment should be?
Should be praised?
Should he have turned her over to local police for interrogation?
Would it have matter?
Will this be handled through their courts without any US intervention?
Should they "go easy" on him?

He should be charged with murder, eventhough he might have saved others lives. Is there proof she was part of the Al-Qaeda?

He could have forwarded her to the police..

This is a complicated matter. By killing his own daughter he saves hundreds of lives (maybe) But the act was not persuaded yet, meaning she might of not of gone through with it, and he killed his daughter for no reason. I am not sure what to say about this. It is his daughter. But she was massively corrupted? This is going to be a great discussion! BTW Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

He should be charged with murder like every other murder. I can see it now, every murderer trying to use the "they were terrorist, I swear!" defense lmao. I can see people even planting quarans and stuff to try to prove it.

I can't help but wonder if there is any punishment in store for him at all, since it was a female he killed, and his own daughter; his property.

I watched an "I survived" story the other day, and an American couple was taken hostage by a group of terrorists. The terrorists wanted money, and told the couple they were asking for ransom. They had asked for a certain amount for the husband, and would let him go when they were paid.

The woman asked "what about her", and was told they would let her go when they released her husband. They told her they had not requested ransom for her because "women have no value here".

Well, it's a hard one really - she'd be dead either way. But HE saved lives. She allegedly was attempting to take them.

So is he any different to a coalition member killing an insurgent amidst an alleged attack? there lies the question.

Hard one, but also goes against the grain of modern media, so I applaud it for that.

Sad however, someone had to die.

To be sure!.. But if you knew a member of YOUR family was going to kill as many people as possible, and you lived in a warzone, who would you tell?

Hrmm?

None?

Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well. I was half joking, about seeing murderers in the west trying that defense, if people here try to hold the guy as some sort of a hero. I mean if you want to really try to murder a man and get away with it, plant a bunch of kiddie porn on their computer, some kids undergarments in their underwear draw. Chances are there will be at least one person on the jury that would see the guy as a hero for killing a witch :p

Usually this is what is said when things like "honor killings" or other killings for religious reasons happen in an Islamic society and are posted here on ATS.

So...if that is the best way in those cases I don't see why it wouldn't be in this one as well..

So you agree that a father has the right to murder his daughter because he disapproves of her behavior?
How very third-world. Or fourth or fifth.

WOW. Sad and strange.
- The father should have turned her over to the police.
- Women are worth a lot less then men as far as the men are concerned. Will the police even prosecute?
- The father saved many other lives ... if it is true that the woman was al-Qaida.
- The father saved his daughter from becoming a mass murderer ... but he did it in a wrong way.
- The courts will have to iron it out. The father has to provide proof that she was Al-Qaida and that he had no choice when he killed her. Otherwise he could have killed her for any reason and is blaming it on her being Al-Qaida. For all we know, she could have just had a Hindu boyfriend or something and he killed her because of that, not because of her being a terrorist.

Wow,. this would be a difficult choice,.
I'd have to say that if my Son decided to do something so mindless
after all the values I'd spent years teaching about the life,. I might feel the same.
I'd hope the some sort of rehab for the boy would have worked but I know I'd be pretty upset.
Thing is though, we dont have that sort of mental processing here in the states,.Even as the teens of America dont always hold great values in many things,. I dont believe the general consensus would be to be wish to kill others,.
It has happened,. but more isolated I believe.
The radicals must use some serious brainwashing and drugs to convert these kids.. shame

The guy should be arrested and punished to the fullest extent of the law. If a person has intent to harm or murder, it does not give you the right to kill them. If my daughter was in Al-Qaeda and I had sufficient evidence that she was in that network, I'd would at least convince her to come back to sanity and have her not associate with Al-CIAda. This could've been planned. It is interesting that this story gets so much attention when there have been quite a few female suicide bombers. Why is this one so important, especially if the "bombing" was averted?

Thi sis a tough one. I understand where he is coming from but going to the authorities would not have automatically saved lived. It is all so tragic. Lives mayhave been saved.

Whatever anyone has to say note two things
1. He will have to live with this for the rest of his life.

2. This is a Moslem making a considerable stand against terrorism.

He obviously was not a Wahabi

Agreed.

If she was a member then it should have been proven first then let the local law deal with the situation.
But this is the middle east and they do still have honor killings as part of their respective societies.

Sad, interesting and Strange story......

Jeebus!
The poor guy!
I feel sorry for both of these victims....
Perhaps there is a compelling reason for the killing,(like she was wearing the vest and headed for the marketplace at the time,)but other than that, it would be hard not to believe that there could have been other avenues of dealing with the situation....
I for one am glad i am not a jurror on this one....

Sad.. The poor man kills his own daughter.. Then says she was "recruited by al qaeda" .. One more life lost due to the lies (al qaeda) of the u.s.. Think the poor man has suffered enough worst thing in the world is for a parent to lose a child - he has that and that he killed her to live with...

Under Shariah (sp?) Law he can and will get away with it.
Did he do the right thing? By western standards, heck no! By his cultural standards, probably.

This is why Shariah can not and will not be allowed in the US. It is the antithesis of our Constitutional government.

2 cents.
