"I would like to apologize to all those southerners who are NOT ignorant bigots......IF THERE ARE ANY!"

OH good grief. NOW who are the bigots?

I got this same narrow minded crap from my friends in Boston MA when I decided to move south 15 yrs ago.

Guess what guys, the city next to me has the highest # of Phds per capita of any state in the Union. I have seen less bigotry and less racism and more neighborliness here in the south than I ever saw in the North.

I do children's parties. Most of the invited guests are mixed. White Black, Asia and Hispanic.

You will get narrow minded idiots anywhere.

If I had to vote I would pick Boston MA as the worst place for bigots hands down. Boston, the home of the foremost Marxist Scholars in the world as one friend used to brag. Boston where a socialist threatened me for wearing a teeshirt about freedom he disliked. To quote "We are going to KILL people like you when we take over the USA!" Unfortunately this reaction to anyone who is a nonconformist in the Boston area is typical. At least the Southerners generally have better manners.

Actually if this happened in Florida, the teachers would be immediately suspended without pay, there are very strict regulations on what teachers cannot do, bullying and locking (false imprisonment) them in a room is a crime in our state. You know nothing of Florida school systems. I do; All three of my children are in the schools in Florida. One teacher down here got fired for cursig at students, and one got terminated for racial slurs. So you have no clue what you're talking about!

Yeah, right because Bigotry exists only in the Southern US, right? Please....

This could have happened anywhere and you know it.

Florida and Texas both have more than their share of wacked events like this. Especially Florida, where I have lived the past 10 years - there's a "city" (it's really just a small town, but they still call 'em a city) that actually passed an ordinance barring Satan from the town.. WTF??

Maybe the kid was sexually involved with an adult coach or teacher. Often these articles are activist in nature and omit unhappy facts that do not fit the victim spin.

We had a female child being sexually pursued by a female coach in our town and the coach told the parents they were "homophobic" and disrespected them. The coach was psychologically drilling the kid on her "in the closet" homo sexuality and trying to get her to "come out." Her mom and dad ended up removing the kid from the public school. It was unsafe and political correctness precluded them from forcing the coach to leave their daughter alone. The kid got to grow up w/o sexual harassment and was normal.

Remember these are children the don't officially have any rights, yet. They should not have kicked her off the team unless she was being a distraction. Being a parent I am glad he told. The sin of homosexuality is second only to murder, being the most grotesque and immoral act to be engaged in. In fact gays have the highest number of suicides in the nation. I'm tired of mainstream media saying it's ok to be gay. Now even the military guys can openly dress in a tutu. So for all the freaks in the land have a merry christmas and happy new year.

Not sure if you are just trying to be inflamatory here, or you actually believe the embarassing intolerance and judgement you just typed, but in either case, we are living in the 21st century, not the mideval times.

Comparing homosexuality to murder is just completely silly.

I see more ignorance and bigotry on this board in regards to blaming events on a geographic location, then that of the said actions in the OP.

You realize what huge hypocrites and ignorance you display by making claims like that right?

Hates crimes against gays and lesbians

Notice the top 5 arent even southern states

Why am I not surprised this happened in Texas. As much as people want to bitch on this board about the liberals running the US into the ground, the bigotry and outright ignorance of the American Conservative South still takes the cake.

Yeah dude because you're not bigoted toward Southern conservatives or anything. Thanks for your valuable post.

I don't know what to do, whether to stop reading your articles, because they make me weep, or keep reading them so as to gain still more awareness about the depths to which American society has fallen, and I'm not even American. One the one hand, I cannot turn a blind eye, and on the other, the depths of the sorrow are, well, deep.

I would ask you to stop doing this to me, but it's obviously not YOUR fault for simply being the messenger..

sigh

From the way that the story is presented, it yanked on my emotions too. However, we aren't getting both sides of the story here. If I had to guess, the two kids were having sexual relations in the locker-room and the teacher caught on. The kids probably tried to use the excuse that they are of the same gender, thus not having sex. The teacher then went and told the kids' parents that they were having sex in the locker room.

There is always two sides of a story and issues like this (homosexuality) are always quickly pounced on by people for political gain. I'm sure that the other side of the story, like the scenario spelled out above. I'm not saying that the teacher is right, only that the incident has probably been taken way out of context in an effort to play on the heart-strings for a political agenda.

If the kids were having sexual relations in the gym, then the teacher has every right to discipline the kids and certainly to tell their parents. When you take it out of context, sure you could say that the teacher demanded to know their sexual orientation but probably only because it would be an indicator of their guilt. I'm sure that they didn't get into trouble just because the students were gay, though that sceanrio wouldn't surprise me. Also, if the parents were told of their childrens' endevours, then sure you could say that they were "outed", but probably not just because they were gay, rather that were having sexual relations in the locker-room. Furthermore, if they were kicked off the team because they were having sexual relations in the locker-room or fratinazation, then they weren't kicked off of the team because they were gay.

If it went down like the above, then it doesn't seem so bad. If one of my children are having sex in public places where other children may be able to see, I want to know about it so that I could takes steps accordingly, whatever those steps may be. Furthermore, I could only dream of having my childrens' school call me everytime they slip up and allow me to handle it instead of the school or "system" (not that my kids have ever really gotten into trouble, but you get the idea).

There are always two sides of every story and this story has some gaps in it that could be easily filled with the most likely scenario.

Any staff that did this had better hope that they are a woman if they locked my daughter in a room and interrogated her on her orientation.

I would personally see to it that a mugging happened for any man that would do that.

What terrible people. I hope they never, ever go anywhere near children of any age again.

...its NOT about homophobia or fundamentalist zealots, as the anti-texas bigots are stating...

...the coaches are both FEMALE and one was having a relationship (or trying to) with a FEMALE student... the girl at the heart of the issue (referred to as SW) was bullied by the lesbian (or bi-sexual, we dont know for sure) coach - because - SW knew too much and it had been reported to the coach that SW was gossiping about the coach's inappropriate behavior with the aforementioned female student...

...but dont take my word for it... read the article...

Hi Bodcausailor, what world are you living in? Your views suggest you are one of these ignorant people who think they know best how others live their own life. Comparing homosexuality to murder is way off the mark in a world where we are striving to have the right to live how we please. I feel sorrow for sad people like you.

You have to be cruel to be kind. I'm glad she was ejected from the team though, I wouldn't want my children mixing with homosexuals, especially not in changing rooms.

Now, don't go around ruining people's prejudice with stupid little things like facts. I mean if only 4 of the top 16 are southern states it might confuse people.

People don't want to admit to things like 4 of the 5 most segregated cities being northern cities. People don't want to admit that some of the oldest Jewish temples are in the south. They also don't want to admit that some of the most economically mixed neighborhoods are in the south.

It amazes me how many people denegrate a whole region of the country without ever looking at what happens in their own back yard.

Emphasis mine.

"The sin of homosexuality is second only to murder."
"Grotesque and immoral."
"It's not okay to be gay"
"dress in a tutu"
"freaks"

Yes. Gays have probably the highest suicide rate in the United States. Survivors of such attempts have cited severe depression as a cause. Children as young as nine years old. One could honestly call it an epidemic - men, women, and children killing themselves. Sometimes by OD'ing on pain pills. Sometimes through hanging themselves. Recently a young man threw himself in front of a tractor trailor truck.

Ever think about why that suicide rate might be so high, bodcausailor? Have you ever thought that maybe it's something that you shouldn't take joy in?

You seem pretty happy with the notion of a teenage boy throwing himself into a highway - after all, he's just a grotesque and immoral freak in a tutu, who is just one notch down from being a murderer, right?

His name was Brandon.. He was someone's son, someone's brother, someone's cousin, someone's friend. He's dead now, because of people who felt it was their job to inform him constantly that he was just a grotesque and immoral freak in a tutu, who is just one notch down from being a murderer.

Have a happy new year.
