Strange, when I grew up I always thought the Democratic Republic of Germany were the good guys.
The DDR just sounded better than something about "Federalists".

Now I see the ANC that I once supported in South Africa (SA) are supporting the most militaristic regimes on the planet. Their youth call this anti-imperialism.

But now I'm really confused.
How can communist dictatorships without free and fair elections be called "democratic"?
Isn't that a contradiction?

Because it sounds better. Just like how most despots in the making will refer to themselves as "freedom fighters". The sad truth is there are two kinds of governance on this planet. The tyrants who are in power and the tyrants who covet that power and seek to obtain it.

Germany NOW is socialist. Why because the german people run the means of production(via strong unions)

Do you know what fascism is.

Hitler,mao,stalin,cheney,bush are all fascist.

Its just an example of this.

en.wikipedia.org...

If you've just stolen the election in the republic of Elbonia your not likely to re-brand it as the

"not really very pleasant dystopian kleptocracy of elbonia"

Thats no good. Multinationals find it tricky to give you money in exchange for your resources, and whats the point stealing if you cant find a fence for the goods.

However, try

"The Peoples Democratic Republic of Elbonia"

Excellent, thats just the ticket. :-)

How bizarre - Myanmar's opposition leader addresses "democratic youth" at SA Youth Festival.
The majority of their countries had shown support for the military regime in former "Burma".
What a waste of time!

For more details on the R69 million "democratic youth" and students' festival (about $10 million) in impoverished SA see: www.abovetopsecret.com...

A bit disappointed that it gets so little attention.
Bloody Imperialists, I tell you!

When you think about it, even a Socialist dictator has to have some support from the citizenry to gain power and stay in office. The citizens generally get all riled up and throw out the existing government, but because they don't have a good plan for what to do afterward, it leaves a vacuum open for a Socialist strongman to gain control of the government. So, in a way, it is democratic, in that the people essentially voted out the old government and declared their willingness to go with a different one.

See, that's what a lot of people around here who are for "revolution" don't seem to get. You gotta have a plan. You need a better alternative. Otherwise, you're going to end up with whoever happens to have the most armed goons on his side.

The joke about the DDR I used to hear as a child:

Tomorrow the death sentence will abolished. Whosoever doesn't believe it will be shot.

Because then young people and academicians are more likely to support them. Call it gullibility if you want.

On the other hand, I'm not sure a "republic" is really democratic either.
A lot of republics make a big show of instilling their limited representativity for "the people" as global democracy.

I suppose a lot of these socialist dictatorships have one party that almost everybody votes for.
Our democratic states are much better: we have two.

Also, I think we have a disjuncture between issues.
If one merely votes on whether the only "party" should stay in power the answer would be "yes"!
Possibly it's also the lifestyle that's "democratic".
I mean, the vote is what makes us all equal?
But in those dictatorships nobody rises above anybody else, and everybody is thus democratically equal.

Do you really think South Africa will follow in the footsteps of Zimbabwe and all those other #holes that are run by dictators?

Wonder whats going on.Mean, recently Malema was sent on this mission to all these communist/socialist countries and then he comes back talking about nationalisation of mines.ANC is truly starting to sound like ZANU-PF

All of their little shenanigans didn't go unnoticed and theres still alot of resistance.So...maybe we won't

I always thought they called themselves "The Peoples' Republic of" so and so.

In a way they are democratic.

A majority of thugs take over the political parties and combine them into a singular party.

That party then runs everything.

Just like our country now.

Then since the elected officials don't actually want to be responsible for anything, they turn over all power to the "president" - who is really nothing more than a mafia strong man.

Just like our country now.

Praise Mao and may Stalin expropriate your Cheerios.
