July 6, 2004
CHINA has confirmed a new outbreak of bird flu in poultry in an eastern province, nearly four months after declaring victory over the disease.
Dead chickens were found on a farm in Anhui province on Saturday, and tests have since confirmed that they died of bird flu, the government said on state-run television.

China has alerted the governments of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau as well as the relevant United Nations organisations, the report said.

Not good.

Hopefully this doesn't spread and take months to contain.
I'd say that if there are still many outbreaks around the beginning of the human flu season, the risk of transmission to a human, and mutation, is more likely. Last year things didn't really pick up and get people really worried until later on in the winter.
Let's hope that's not the case especially with H5N1.
There's no mention which strain this one is, though.
