Maybe their parents should take a City, State or Federal job.

Those are the jobs currently being cut, while financial corporations are showing record profits and bonuses to executives. Maybe every one should become a wall street banker. We'd all get rich! Roads will crumble, farms lie waste, factories boarded up, schools closed, but hey, we'd all be rich!

No offence taken. However, for information I have both lived in the US and have an American sister in law. Compared to other Western nations, the US has a low level of state welfare and many of the programmes - including time limiting welfare assistance, rather then having an "open-ended approach - would be considered unacceptable in some Western nations. In the UK there are endless examples of welfare "sponging" reported everytime you open a newspaper, but there is popular uproar when the politicians propose reform.

My point was that when the US Administration sought to put in place healthcare reform the initiative was viewed with scorn by some as "socialist", and we know that millions of Americans do not have half decent healthcare coverage. The fact that the State was seeking to directly support people in need was viewed with contempt.

You cannot blame the US neglect for the lower echelons of society on immigration and defence expenditure.

My 6yr old girl can read really good now.

It cost me 0$.

Books are everywhere, and library cards are free as well.

Kids like libraries too.

All you gotta do is sit down with the kid and have them read it but help them with pronouncing words.
But it really helped when she was like 3 we would sing the alphabet song, and at 4 we went over all the sounds that letters make a lot.

Stuff like that makes it easy for a kid. When they get mad and frustrated just tell them its ok and they will get better. And tell them all of the great rewards reading and writing will bring them.

She writes people letters now, although still somewhat sloppy, they are legible English. And that's what counts imo.

I think the problem we are now facing in our society is that people allow the TV to become more important that spending time with their kids. Also I see a lot of "bar hopping and partying is more important" than their kids.

I don't care that they ruin their kids lives, that's their choice. But I know what choice I will make for my kids, and that is to get them reading and asking questions about everything. There are no dumb questions in this house.

In a odd way this is a result of repressing advanced energy technologies.

If near free-energy tech was released into the public, this would eliminate 98%+ of our energy costs.

That would bring the "cost of living" down significantly, while at the same time the "quality of living" would increase.

This would mean that instead of both parents having to work to support their families, only one would have to work.

This would allow parents to spend time with their kids again. This would increase the literacy rate significantly in my opinion.

It won't cure everything, and it won't be magic. But it will increase our standards in many respects.

Release cheap advanced energy technology to get this show on the road.

Think about it, more than half of what we pay for everything is due to high energy costs. Not just your electric or gas bills. I am talking milk and bread from the store. Or just a notebook and pencils. These items have to be shipped long distances in many cases and this drives their price up due to the cost of energy for transportation.

Advanced energy technologies offer the potential to eradicate 98%+ of these wasteful over-expenditures.

At the same time, it's a double whammy. Not only are they holding us back and keeping us working endlessly just to cover the expense of getting to work (energy cost), this same poverty and wastefulness causes us to fail to educate our children properly due to being at work all day etc.

This causes children to have poor prospects in the economic world, as they slowly degrade into illiteracy.

It becomes a repeating process, and it causes them to go further and further downward in a spiral of self-defeat.

It's like being trapped in a system of slavery where you basically pick your owner and auction yourself off for a really low price. Lower literacy rates lead us to being stuck in these systems indefinitely.

Advanced energy tech = better prospects for humanity.
And repressing energy tech = staying in a slowly collapsing self-defeating system.
