I think that something is building up there in Nevada. Really the Nevada/California border. Note the proximity to the Mammath lakes. Talk about a hot bed.

These are some decent sized quakes and have been building in intensity since yesterday.

Here is a list of the recent cluster and Mammoth lakes for just the past two days:

I agree there are some similarities. I am not going to pretend that I am familiar with the area though, because I am not. All I know is that its near Mammoth Hot springs, which has been quite active this past year, but not with sizeable quakes. I think there has been talk about drilling there? But I don't know...haven't kept up on that.

Regardless of what kind of human activity there is in the area, it is pretty darn hard for us to cause a 4.0+ mag quake....at least, not without public knowledge. (ie., detonations)

I don't know what is up with Bodie, california....but all the quakes near there have been at 0.0 km deep. Five of them in the past two days. three of them over 2.0. hmmmmm.....

I'm glad i thought to check this first. i was just going to start a thread on this. I think its all connected. Cali has been having more then norm lately and mexico just had one that was i think 5.0 or something. I could be wrong but it was big like that. it will be fun to watch in the coming months.

Found this great website for monitoring this cluster. They have already issued a statement about it.

HERE

Seven earthquakes of Magnitude 3.0 and larger have been located about 12 miles south of Hawthorne, Nevada over the past few hours. The first of these occurred at 4:02 PM PDT and the latest at 6:05 PM PDT. The preliminary magnitude for the largest event is M 4.2. The three largest events took place in about a two minute time window from 5:20 to about 5:22

Check out the map there....it shows very clearly what I was already seeing on other maps; that there is a nice flat looking area among a bunch of mountains. I would guess they are volcanic (unknown if active or not) based on the names of them.

Could this be magmatic in nature?? Just guessing here.

Another good source

Didn't feel it, was outside on a roof 5 stores up, couldn't have been too severe or would have felt the wobble.

Home now, very windy out there.

Been 3 aftershocks, about 5-6km to the NW

No that does not look normal but you'd have to ask someone in the know. To me from the crash course I've had the past few months I'd say it looks harmonic. But someone that knows the seismo's and the errors with them would have to answer. Do the other stations look like that?

No not that extreme. Just weird that's all. Just concerns me a bit with all the earthquakes I'm on vacation in Oregon for a few days so I guess I will be keeping my eye out
