Moorf, normally I'm otherwise too private and paranoid to volunteer this, but I live -near- Iowa. Thats FAR away from Oklahoma. But I am CERTAIN of what I felt!

The movement you describe is the S-wave action.. you would have experienced this moreso than the P-wave violence because of your distance from the event
It feels a bit like bobbing on the sea

That's what I was thinking too, what a strange feeling, and I still feel weird, with goosebumps and a little off kilter. It was just downright weird.

Also as a side not, my dog has been driving me nuts all evening, and during the quake he went nuts barking and running around. Almost as soon as the quake was over he calmed down and laid on his bed. He must have sensed something.

wow 5.6 on a swarming weekend for OK. Ceri and helicorders were up for Memphis and AR right after and saw the waves, but now still can't get them back. Stay safe out there.

This isn't good - another larger quake.
One large enough to cause damage,
I hope not. But if its a 5.6.

Have a quake watch page on FB if anyone's interested *blatant plug* !!!

www.facebook.com...

Should expect to see at least a mag 4+ aftershock from that.

Hope you all and your homes/property are ok

Here we are in Broken Arrow Oklahoma. Wow is all I can say! It was amazing... The rumble coming toward us. The shaking of walls, windows. Just couldn't breathe. We are still wide-eyed and shocked. We are waiting for the aftershocks. Could there be another one coming?

Can totally empathise after our 7.1 here in NZ and following mag 6's...

I would expect some aftershocks from that... let's hope it's not a foreshock. I assume you all have your emergency kits ready ... stay safe.

It's also the largest ever recorded in Oklahoma according to a Tweet from the American Red Cross.

Please be careful - stay safe!

Let's hope for a smaller aftershock
now - don't want this one to be
a foreshock.

The 5.6 we had tonight beat the Oklahoma record earthquake. That one was a 5.5 in 1952.
No damage to report at home. A few minor reports here and there coming in. No injuries reported other than nerves.

Peace.

For those of you that wanted the desktop app to monitor earthquakes globally but could not use it because it is for Windows 7 here is another one. This has been verified to work on xp. For those of you that the other one did work you may wish to check this out as well. It is 3D and works much like Google Earth. Any way here is the download and info page... www.wolton.net...

MoorfNZ Kits are at the ready
I can't imagine what you went through. We are doing better. At least we can look at each other now without the shock and fear written all over our faces.

crazydaisy Thank you we will be careful. Probably won't sleep much tonight. My ears are still buzzing.

There have been two aftershocks around 3M following the 5.6M.

Earthquakes in the Eastern States in the last few month 5+:

Colorado
Virginia
Oklahoma

Texas 4.8M.
And a swarm in Arkansas, and a 4.7M.
Missouri 4.2M

Did I forget any?
