Where is are the magnetic poles now after all the earthquakes and solar flares?
Any updates on those?

Nothing showing prior to the 3.919ML, it is still the first quake of the day.
The last previous quake, according to Geonet Search, was the day before (UTC)
3466543, -38.06503, 176.70744, 2011/2/17 21:14:52, 1, 2.45ML, SSW of Lake Rotoitipaku, Bay of Plenty, Onepu Fault Swarm, Felt

This BUD graph shows the "foreshock" quite clearly
www.iris.edu...

the green and red wiggles afterwards were aftershocks,
3466758, -41.38128, 174.63033, 2011/2/18 7:49:59, 17, 2.707ML
3466917, -41.38556, 174.64059, 2011/2/18 15:21:5, 19, 2.793ML

and the black wiggle may be a trace of this one
3466988, -38.48655, 175.75992, 2011/2/18 18:57:5, 180, 4.66ML, S of Whakamaru, Waikato
there are no other quakes reported close by around that time.

The blue one was pretty close to my place, I didn't feel it because I was down in Wellington at the time

3467053, -41.01032, 174.78423, 2011/2/18 21:43:9, 35, 3.776ML, o/s Pukerua Bay, Kapiti Coast

One missing quake then

more on the Onepu Fault Swarm later, after Breakfast

Thanks for the updates everyone. Are things less active today or is it just me. I have had this impending feeling of something big around the corner all day. Have had a headache and sorta lightheaded. The birds, squirrels, rabbits all hiding out someplace today, not around and I put out food.

Looks like a lens refraction. I have no idea what DISH Earth is but the shape of that matches the overexposed area and since a shock wave could not possibly be that shape it has to be an artefact produced by the overexposure.

OK 24 hours later

I got distracted, spent the day at the Kawerau Geothermal Feild ( on the Internet, not in real life)

So heres my report .............

Onepu Fault Swarm
On the 17th February 2011 UTC ( 17-18th NZDT) a small swarm of micro earthquakes occured in the Kawerau Geothermal Feild NW of the Onepu rhyodacite Domes, over a period of 15 hours. The trend of the series of quakes was SW to NE which follows the Onepu Fault. The most intense consentration of quakes was from 2:20 am to 2:40 am NZDT with no quake more than 7 minutes apart, 7 in all.
Of the 17 events in the confined Swarm, 5 were reported as felt by the public
Two of the quakes listed below are outside the main area of the swarm, but may be related due to the volcanic nature of the entire Bay of Plenty region.

This is what I was reading all day, 145 page Confidential Report on the Kawerau Geothermal Feild by GNS for Mighty River Power
GNS Report (pdf File)

The report was done in 2005 but it appears extraction of steam and water from the Onepu Thermal Area/ Kawerau Geothermal Feild has been going on since 1951.
Its all about supplying the Kawerau Pulp and Paper Mill with energy.
The conclusion is that even with reinjection of waste water back into the system since 1991, there have been no ill effects to the Feild itself, apart from some alteration to the chemical quality of the water.
More heat loss has been attributed to the alterations to the faults after the 1987 Edgecumbe 6.3 earthquake.
The whole Feild is subsiding due to being part of the Whakatane Graben.

Worth a read if you have the time, quite a history of Geothemal Extraction, that I had no idea about before yesterday.
