We are often faster!

We are also often more accurate!

In some places yes, in Chile or the Moro Gulf not really.

I think in defence of usgs (I'm one otheir biggest critics) there have been a lot of double and triple wammy quakes lately (since the Samoa 8.0) and it must be hard to figure out what is going on in the initial stages of data processing.
just look at the Celebes Sea one (two) the other day.

so a 6.8 and a 6.2 =
energy wise
compared to a 7 ?

Still a big discrepancy USGS 6.3 > 6.1 and EMSC 5.5 > 5.4

Could this be two quakes? I don't think it is but I am surprised they are not closer in mags.

4.6 atYellowstone!!!

also another 6.1 in Chile..

Nothing on USGS about a 4.6 in Yellowstone.. Hmmm...

I am worried though.. I'm noticing a lot of pressure building, and loads of small quakes--and in the past 12 hours, a bunch in the New Madrid fault.. (tiny though)... and one in Alabama.

This pressure extends from Chile all the way to Washington State, into Yellowstone, and down the rocky mountains... Everything I see is screaming 'something bad is coming in days'. Now 'bad' could simply mean a 4.0+ on the new Madrid... or a 6+ somewhere on US soil...

Sure hope not. Just have an odd feeling.

That was already posted (the 6.1) AND THE 4.6 AT Yellowstone was a non-event.

I would appreciate it if you would check first and calm down a little.

Good. Might leave more space for the rest of us and make life more peaceful!

This panicking is doing my head in.

I was asking you to calm down because we don't need the exclamation marks and frankly your very large maps are a bit in one's face. They could do with being toned down a bit. Just my opinion of course.

When you understand how the system works a little better you will realise that you cannot post everything you see without checking, and that sometimes these errors take a little time to work their way out of the system. This is especially true of quakes at Yellowstone in the wintertime.

You have to check the information in the listings against an appropriate seismo. You can read the explanation by the YVO of why this happens on the Yellowstone thread by the way.
