Bohemia, CZ – The Geophysical Institute, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic says it has recorded almost 10,000 earthquakes during the last three days in West Bohemia, a region located close to the Czech Republic’s western border with Germany. The earthquake swarm started late on Tuesday and continued through Friday. While many have gone unnoticed by the local population some of the larger tremors, including eight quakes exceeding 3 magnitude have been felt in the towns of Chemnitz, Karlovy Vary, Birch, and Luby. The most recent earthquake measured 3.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale and hit at 0645hrs GMT on Friday at a shallow depth of three miles. The quake epicentre was located 81 miles (129 km) NE of Nürnberg 82 miles (131 km) SW of Dresden, 90 miles (144 km) W of Praha, 128 miles (204 km) NW of Budejovice, 131 miles (210 km) NNW of Schärding, and 227 miles (364 km) NW of Wien. Commenting on the latest earthquake swarm, the Geophysical Institute, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic stated: “The activity started in the evening of 23 August and is almost continuous till now (26 August morning). IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Vogtland earthquake swarms happen on a regular basis. They had massive swarms back in 1908 and 1903 there, which caused much damage with multiple quakes of intensity 6 and 7 (MSK-Scale). They have had large swarms in 1901, 1903, 1908, 1929, 1936, 1962 and 1985-86 as well as additional swarms in 2000 and 2008. Generally the really strong earthquake sequences occur once every 75 years with major damage. This swarm seems to have started like one of the smaller ones, however there are no certainties!

This is from the Newberry Caldera in oregon. Weather is not a factor.

I would like someone to take a look at this from VA. We have had a few smaller quakes going on. But what does this indicate. No storms either. Thanks

Those would be aftershocks of the 5.8 I guess

We had a couple of 5.2's here in NZ last year that had aftershocks of Mag 2-3 going on for months, and they weren't Christchurch either, Mt. Dagg/ Kaituna in the Wairarapa 2010/11/28 and Waiau River Valley, near Frasertown in Hawkes Bay.2010/7/11.

Quite normal to have aftershocks, even low Mag 5's have them and some Mid 4's have one or two.

hi everyone,

quick observation:

only a couple of days ago it all went a bit crazy, after being "quiet" for a week or so...
despite CMEs, elenin etc,

anyway i havent seen so many MAG 7's in one week in ages....

NOW, all quiet...

only 2 x MAG 5+ E/Qs yesterday,

and now NO MAG 5+ at all in the last 24hrs...

according to USGS...

earthquake.usgs.gov...

so what next???

Did a quick check of all SP and BB stations listed on the site. Nothing like what Newberry is showing. Wouldn't it be likely that some would pick up similar data? Or maybe they did, but it's not displaying like Newberry. However, the Hood and Detroit Lake BB stations have bizarre displays for the same chart segment while Buck, Pine Mountain and Dodson View have gaps where there is no data. Could this be a glitch of some kind? Wanted to go back and look at Newberry data over the past week, but didn't have time this morning. I'll leave further speculation to the more experienced, listen and learn. Interesting! Hope there's further comment from others.

Or maybe they did, but it's not displaying like Newberry. There have been 5 earthquakes almost magnitude 5.0 in the past 24 hours, did you not review your own link?

Almost all of the near-and above- 7.0's have been at Vanuatu so nothing strange there..

I have just had that come up as July 16 and then when I refreshed Mar 10.

It now seems to be stuck on March 10th

Am I in a time warp? Is anyone else getting the same.

Are you sure? See my post above. Take a close look at the dates. I just tried from Shanes link and got the 16th July.

Something screwy is going on. The mag 7 was Peru not Vanuatu.

I am getting the current dates, there must be something wrong with your internet connection?
If there was just the 1 7.0 why did he say he's never seen so many in a week?

edit: besides there is no solid time frame for when certain magnitudes occur. if ther were just a bunch of larger ones there isn't that much stress to be released...
