This is from US.CBN.BHZ in GEE : For Virginia

Storm, fracking (
) I have NO IDEA! I wonder....and am on the edge of my seat awaiting your analogy.
Sorry but I am not "there" yet...still an infant in the EQ world as I have just begun my studies and researching in Jan. and not nearly long enough.

I am hoping it is just "waves" from the Storm.

It looks like its calming down, whatever it was.

Both on the webi and the GEE station.

So it got more intense....now calming down. I really don't think it is local. I have been watching that channel for two days now, haven't seen anything like it. It lasted for over ten minutes....not a train or anything.

Whatchya think puterman??

That is on the East coast. As I said I don't have that particular site on my computer. The only thing I have to view is from western VA in Blacksburg.

This is what the data looks like from here.

Yup looks like it. Nice little snapshot of the 4.5 in this one

Way too long to be a train and wrong shape. Wind/Water best guess. Getting the sound now. I will tell you if is is anything other than that.

Actually it sounds more like solar. On LHZ it sounds very electrical and on BHZ it has what I have come to recognise as magnetic interference.

Magnetometer appears to confirm this.

Well that wasn't what I expected! I have about five stations pulled up around the midwest right now and that was the only one showing anything.

Odd.

ETA: Puterman, as you listen to it....could you also try and picture some things outside the box? How about movement of something other than magma...such as gas or water below the surface???

Here you go. Have a listen

US_CBN _BHZ_20110825-180000_4000Hz.flac

It sounds like the Devils Voices at Yellowstone - you no doubt remember them speaking?

I have noticed many times that these signals can affect just a single seismo. Could even be something as simple as a dodgy solder joint somewhere in the comms link changing the whole capacitance (or something - I am not electrical) of the thing.

On the other hand you could take your pick from tunnel boring or 'the visitors' - but not gas/magma - too sharp a cutoff and anyway this is NOT in the earthquake frequencies.

BTW: You just are not looking at enough stations. First alternative I pulled. CNNC.US.00.BHZ.2011.237

Could you quickly explain what this is, and what it means please?

OK....now I am getting worried about all these EQ's down there

Magnitude M 5.3
Region VANUATU
Date time 2011-08-25 18:21:37.5 UTC
Location 18.71 S ; 167.34 E

149 km SW Vila (pop 35,901 ; local time 05:21:37.5 2011-08-26)

Source parameters provided by another agency
That's 7 all above 5 today.

OK...as quick as I posted they have either removed the above or just changed the depth massively

I believe it to be interference in the signal from the seismo as it travels through the ether to IRIS data centres for processing. These signals go by satellite or microwave and are susceptible to anything like solar flares (we have mild incoming) and magnetic disturbances.

He is the CNNC file from 1600 to 1900

US_CNNC_BHZ_20110825-160000_4000Hz.flac

FLAC files can be played by WinAmp. FLAC is the format of choice by a discerning music industry! It also works better than mp3 which is refusing to work below 8000 Hz.

I would not be worrying about these quakes at Vanuatu. All perfectly normal. Nothing to see. Move along there.

I couldn't get the sound file to work. But I heard the Yellowstone one.

Puterman, I respect your skepticism. Even if you're wrong. I'm not claim I have proof.

Before first peer reviewed study on injection- was it that Swedish one?- there was no proof injection wells caused quakes. It was obvious from the Colorado swarm that it does.

I hope you except that I have wild ideas, but I don't mix up my facts from fancies. If I am stating fact, I always have a reference before I insist I'm right. Otherwise, I'm content when some laugh at me. Water off a duck's back.

Here's something you may, or may not, like.

sorry I'm off in my own world here.
Another one came on while I was editing the graph, a 5.3 Vanuatu

I think I'll set the circles to a certain mag size, #3 circle should be slightly smaller than #2 circle

but then again #3 and #4 have the same mag, but different sized traces.

I dunno, gotta go to work

see ya

www.winamp.com...

I said it in the post WinAmp plays FLAC files

I can make WAV files if you would prefer but FLAC is a lossless compression.

There you go. Raw wav files untouched by anything.

Thank you...just out of interest, just as I finished posting my question to you, I was on my mobile to my friend, it suddenly cut off (not so unusual) but....it had switched itself off, sort of, because the nokia opening screen came up, I thought I had run out of battery, but whilst remembering I had only just finished charging it, the darn thing re-booted itself!....Hmmmmm

Hmmm...reminds me of wind and water percolating.

I didn't hear the evil voiced like in the arkansas one (that one really freaked me out)....but its wierd.

Know what those clicking, odd sounds remind me off? Those of you that have seen the movies Signs. When they are listening to the aliens communicate over the baby monitor?????

I don't know why I listened to that. It freaks me out. Damn curiousity.

In my totally unqualified opinion, it sounds like being underwater, then there's some electrical noise, then satan himself, then a whistle, and it would have started talking directly to me if I listened to it again.

I will obey.

Just kidding.

Had to add.

I just looked at Yellowstone. It seems like transmission problems. LKWY is working and it's got one of those whacky signatures. Which I assumed to be some interference. So, I'm betting that you're right about magnetic interference. Maybe.

No animal reactions to those here either. They are eerie sounds and I thought the same thing about the movie Signs in that.
