Does anyone see this stopping in the near future? No. Has the war really finished for the coalition or is it just starting? They can't pull out now.

Westpoint, you think that being heavy handed is going to win more "hearts and minds"(as they say)? The Iraqi nation feels humiliated and now many people look back to Saddam with a nostalgic feeling because of the way he represented their nation, even though he was a tryrant. The people are not going to help the coalition forces anymore than they are now if more civilians get killed by heavy handed tactics even if it does kill terrorists.

Think of the way that the civilians were treated in Nam, think how many were killed, napalmed, and poisoned by Agent orange. Is that what you want to happen?

It's a really hard situation.

and even this
works great for interrigation its the only way to crack the terrorists.

True, they can't pull out now, but they have trained the Iraqi Guard and they are now being called in and are fighting side by side with us when something is going on.

It's a start. The transistion is progressing. It will ultimately end when the Iraqi's themselves are capable of defending their own country and we are working/doing everthing we can to get them to that point.
