Alright so I wake up this morning at 8:30 flipping through the channels and this infomercial comes on for a documentary and I'll I have to say Is WOW I have never been so offended by a TV ad in my life! It is from 1997 but It hasn't been made available until recently I think, a wonderful thing to wake up to let me tell you....

I was completely taken away by this and didn't think something like this could even air... BTW it is a Time Life production and I thought the quality of their products were held to a little bit of a higher standard, this has to have it an all time low for them!

I'm going to end my rant at that I was wondering what your thoughts of this video are and how you feel about it? Can someone also embed this video for me I'm not too sure on how to do it, so I'll leave you with a link and I'm not even sure it's the full commercial www.youtube.com...

Other than that, what is your problem with the video?

Maybe im missing something but its an advertisement for a documentary about the nazis....I dont understand whats so horrifying about it. The commercials highlights learning from the pass as a reason to watch/buy it...its not a celebration...I dont understand why you feel so horrified.

Not only is it offensive to the survivors and their families from then but also to the German people as a whole.... Did you catch the opening line in that video?

I dont really know what the problem would be. It's history. It's ugly history, sure. But it is history. There are alot of people that have a more than "focused" obsession with WW2. There are plenty of movies made about the war, also.

I think it is interesting, seeing their culture, and how it became the totalitarian evil that we all know it as. I dont think they are glamorizing it or anything.

And yes, our commercials are VERY annoying sometimes, liveforever!!

"They sang, laughed, played...and murdered millions"

Sounds about right to me.

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill to be honest.

Yea I caught that, "they laughed, they sang, they killed millions." Judging by the age of the advert it was meant to catch your attention, just added for shock. While im sympathetic to survivors, I have no idea why they would be offended. If anything they should be happy that there will be more proof for those who deny the existence of the holocaust Its not like the thing is celebrating the nazis..

I dont think it's offensive to Germans. It's history!! Meaning past tense!!

You cant just erase the fact that it happened, because people are sensitive about the issue. You'll end up like America! We have completely swept under the rug the fact that we stole this land from the native americans.

Did you listen to the rest of the advertisement?

Are you suggesting that history be repressed because it's ugly? If so, we've got thousands upon thousands of books to burn.

It's a documentary. Get over it.

Yeah you guys are absolutely right, we don't have enough information on the holocaust already maybe 1,000 more movies and documentaries should be pumped out! I guess I am looking too far into it, basically demonizing the whole German population for what the Nazi's did... I especially liked the part where it says call now for free shipping while it shows the train cars rolling by......

I'll be totally honest here -

What shocked and disgusted me far more than the video you linked in the op were the comments under it and the "thumbs up" they got.

Gems like...

I refuse to buy anything that shows the national socialists in a negative light.

The real evil was on the other side that won the war.

Special Bonus DVD: "Barry Obama: America's Hitler In The Making"

Look into the face of evil? Is this video about Netanyahu?

This ad wasn't meant to offend, or "celebrate"...I think the point they were trying to make is that these were ordinary people...people like us...who somehow became the most horrific death machine in the history of humanity. How an ordinary person could wake up, kiss his wife, play with the kids, go to work, help exterminate 6 million Jews, Christians, Roma, homosexuals, etc, come home, have dinner and think everything was ok. That, with the possible exception of some of the higher ups, the rank and file were pretty normal. Or at least, managed to appear that way.

Just my two cents.

I do find cashing in on the deaths of millions of innocent people rather distastful. I think maybe that is what the OP is getting at.

I wonder if the DVD set mentions that the Bush family funded the Nazi's.

I'm not sure why the outrage about the "singling, laughing, playing, murdering" aspect of the commercial. It is a legit statement.

I will refer whoever is interested to Goldhagen's excellent "Hitler's Willing Executioners", which carefully and in great detail documented the German gleefulness involved in the extermination of Jews and other "subhumans."

Let's not ignore the facts: the German people, along with their foreign counterparts, partied as they shot, gassed, hanged, and incinerated their political and genetic enemies. These people would sing and dance and party in the ratskellers after they spent the day hunting and killing others.

This is a lesson we need to revisit. Fascists don't mind committing genocide in the name of an ideology. They like it. They enjoy it. When the rest of us look on with horror and screaming "No!", they stand proudly and chant "YES WE CAN!"

when i was a child, my grandfather was a part of a documentary made about the nazi's.
he escaped the warsaw ghetto, crossed a chunk of western europe on foot, with much help from the resistance.
he stowed away on a cargo ship and made it to america.
he told his story for a documentary back in the 70's.
it was amazing the amount of hate mail he received, his furniture store in a small pennsylvania town was vandalized numerous times.
all this for going on film and telling his story.

Just like the Bush and Obama administration? Nice use of the "YES WE CAN" logo, we can apply that to how Americans killed Iraq civilians over the years... Maybe in 50 years we'll get ourselves how America turned evil overnight documentary.... I understand it's a dark place in history but don't think it should be milked for all it's worth, I don't have a problem with the documentary itself just the way it was presented...

Which needs to be done.

The exact same thing is happening again under the same eagle, but by the time people work it out, it will be far too late.
