THE GOOD NEWS! The world will not end on Dec 21, 2012.
THE BAD NEWS: The date has been moved up to Dec 21, 2010.
An astrologer, Victoria Peltz just wrote an article explaining that we are –
or may be - two years off in our calendar because of the confusion back in
the 16th century between the Gregorian and Julian calendar. In other words
when we interpreted the end of the age in the Mayan calendar as 2012, it
should have been 2010.
This never made sense to me because I thought we were only comparing the Mayan calendar to our modern-day calendar for comparison, so whether or not our ancestors confused our own calendar earlier on should be irrelevant.
For example if I start measuring a distance in meters, and then switch to feet, I can still tell that a tree is 5 feet ahead of me without having to go back and convert the early meters back into feet.
In the same way, the only question is interpreting the Mayan calendars, because once we establish their time, via astronomical alignments or whatever they were using for their system of time, all we have to do is convert it to our modern system that we currently understand.
