Iran forces on alert as economic

news.yahoo.com

TEHRAN, Iran – Security forces flooded Iran's capital in a warning against possible unrest as fuel prices surged 400 percent Sunday under plans to sharply cut government subsides and ease pressure on an economy struggling with international sanctions.

The so-called economic "surgery" has been planned for months, but was repeatedly delayed over worries of a repeat of gas riots in 2007 and serious political infighting during the standoff with the West over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program

Why does Iran's feul cost gone up 400 percent.Do they are dont they export oil????.Seems some strange things are a foot here and from the article this has been in the works for months.

No uprisings as of yet.But this does make one wonder about these actions, are they stockpiling for something. And as well how would a country under U N sanctions be able to trim if they are not getting any aid.

They do, but as I understand it they have very few refineries. So they cannot make much gasoline.

Exactly but let's also look at it in a proper context. They were not paying that much when compared to other countries to begin with but a 400% jump is drastic IMO, Lord knows, I wouldn't want that kind of spike.

So you gotta ask yourself what is the logic behind this, what is Iran's real motive

Oil is like a bad drug, people are addicted to it./

If the Iranian government is doing this to move people away from oil, then it is a very well done job.

Here in New Zealand the government tax on cigarettes is 72 %. What that means is, that means if a cigarettes costs 10 dollars, 72 % of that money is for TAX.

Why? Because of addiction and health issues.

Oil is the same.

This is a great move for Iran, it is also good strategically, hence let the world be addicted to oil, while you be the first to get rehabilitation.

This is not a lack of refineries, but as a result of sanctions being placed on them for not stopping their nuclear enrichment program.

People are not going to be able to afford to fuel their vehicles, and Iran's economy will take a hard hit. People are going to suffer greatly after awhile if this continues, but our government, and the U.N. only care about making Iran play ball for them.

If they had their own refineries, the sanctions would be irrelevant. They have the oil, they just cannot make fuel. If they had the capability to refine their own fuel, how could sanctions affect their prices?

This move might also have something to do with the pollution in Tehran.

Strangely enough, similar things to what is now happening in US went on in Iran immediately after the election.
There was a huge siphoning off of the wealth of the country into the hands of the corporate - particularly the military industrial corporate. The election was basically a coup d'etat and the military/police state was pretty much finalised quickly after that. The money from the oil goes into the bank accounts of the elite. Inflation has been rampant and many are starving.

I find it suspect that while they profess to be the worst of enemies, what is happening now in US is so very similar to what happened in Iran. That's why I keep saying I think they are on the same team, playing out their respective roles.
