Why did we get no close up live feed on 911?

Incidently, the source for that list is exactly the same as your images: Scott Bingham of flight77.info (later taken over by John Farmer, who subsequently closed the site after it had been repeatedly attacked).

I must say, the quality of the footage with respect to image clarity, crispness, colour, etc. was piss poor
for media grade cameras.

I've shot better footage with a $300.00 digital camera on video mode and it's only 5 megapixels.

Such a clear, sunny day...but all of those cameras couldn't produce a decent picture even "live", on Sept 11/01.

Perhaps because HDTV didn't become widespread until a few years after 9/11, so back then we were still stuck with the good old SDTV standards.

In any case, the main reason for the low quality is the compression of the TV signal, both in the original broadcast and subsequent compressions when uploaded to the interwebs. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if some videos on YouTube have been through 5 or 6 compressions by now.

In ordwer to get a good shot would have to be some distance away

Of course, I am not complaining they showed them. I wonder why all the other video was cut off and not shown, hardly any images from the streets at all untill they surfaced on youtube. Where they afraid explosions would be heard on live tv?

no, they were afraid of showing people plunging to their deaths while on fire.

In which case, I am confused. You claim they didn't show anything from the streets, but it's plainly obvious they did.

It's my understanding, that depending on where you live in the US, it's a different local affiliate who broadcast a given channel in your area. The New York-based affiliates obviously had cameras on the street, and were showing those pictures on their local feed, while a Los Angeles-based affiliate would have had to use the 'national' feed.

I understand you live in Germany, so I think the closest equivalent would be how ARD is operated.
