From News Story:
"Inside America’s (Mock) Attack on North Korea"

"Two years earlier, the Pentagon put together a very different kind of war plan for North Korea — one that didn’t involve ground troops at all. Instead, U.S. forces would lob bombs and missiles and electronic attacks in an instant “global strike.” Even nuclear weapons were considered, as part of the plan."

I tend to agree that they are both ready to kick off a war and force a final settlement to the 1953 Armistice.
However, with the North saying they will make it nuclear and nuclear outside the Korean Peninsula, it leaves little doubt to the final outcome. I gave thought to how they would extend it outside the Korean Peninsula and there is a possibility they put a nuke inside a container ship or even a fishing vessel some time ago and it is already out to sea. They could sail it just about anywhere and detonate it. I guess it would depend on just how dedicated to ending their life the ships crew would be if they would set it off or not. Otherwise, I don't think they have developed a small enough warhead to put on a missile yet. I could be wrong, but that usually takes a while to develop a small enough one. If they did go nuclear, the Pentagon would probably kick off one of the previous nuclear plans to end it quickly with tactical nukes along the North of the DMZ wiping out a majority of the Norths troops and artillery, and then mop up the rest of the countries military and political sites with B2's from Diego Garcia and some AIM-129 Nuclear Cruise missles. I read somewhere a long time ago when they were acting out that we had foward deployed nukes to Diego Garcia just in case. But surely we have 3 or 4 Tridents in the West Pacific that could put an end to it real quick. Let's hope they are smarter than trying to go nuclear.

Here is the story about how the Nuclear Plan has developed. It is 3 pages, but explains the US Plans for nuclear striles on countries including N. Korea, Iran, etc. It's pretty interesting. Worth a read.

I fail to see the point in killing the general population that are starving, and completely ignorant of anything that has happened in the outside world since the 40's

Dropping food parcels and Nike trainers wrapped in American flags with some free radios tuned to pick up some good old fashioned propaganda and shooting Kim Jong Ill and family in the head might work a little better

Yes, but just a few days ago the US and South Korea signed a TOF agreement that brings the South under the protection of the US nuclear umbrella. I will try and find the story for you.

Here is the ATS thread on that:
