i feel having a belief is by no means a bad thing. but unfortunatly typical human responces seem to take over. competition kicks in at every level in human nature to be the best, biggest weathiest etc, religeon is no different, i ask you this those who "serve the lord or allah who ever you beleive in" isnt trying to be the greatest servant not an act of greed itself ? . The reward would be the knowledge that you are the greatest supporter that you are worthy and others are less worthy. Is this not a form of greed.

to aspire to be more than everyone around you is nature, survival of the fitest. Twisted by human phycology into some bizzare fashion where every walk of life is a competition one way or another. religeon is no different, if another idea comes along, a more credible one that seeks to destroy the basis of your own you fight against it, deny the truth, create stories to discredit it, every tactic under the sun.

I see the religeous "ufoers" community typifiying this point, fearmongery of the aliens being children of satan etc. without any tangable proof. those without a strong belief can more easily transition between ideas and theories when they arise, the trouble is with those who are entrenched in their ways, instead of changing their beleifs in light of new evidence they prefere to seek to destroy or deny said evidence. how is this progress. truly beleiving blindly in things leads to wars, conflicts, a regressive culture.

I agree...

Religion has been the basis of almost every war that ever occured before the 19th century, religion and money. These days its just about money, and of course theres a few that still start wars in the name of their God but thats neither here nor there.

IF there was some way to make people understand that no religion is "the" correct one. Not a belief in nothing but and understanding that we're all here for a reason. Believing in a book thats rarely read, and believeing in what you're told to believe not what you've learned for yourself is not progression. Your spirit evolves naturally by living life, helping others, and learning the lessons you were meant to learn. Not by going to church and listening to some so called "man of God" preach a rewriten book from the dark ages. A book not writen by God but by "God inspired" men.

Belief if yourself, in your own spirit is the way. People can love jesus or Allah or whatever floats their boat but without knowledge of the spirit theres no progression. And theres little that can be learned about your own spirit when you're not learning for yourself.

I'd like to comment...

Usually the people who are so blinded by faith that they will either destroy or deny any contrary evidence, have been indoctrinated by their environment usually starting from the day they were born.

That means that accepting that the stuff you learned your entire life is incorrect or even a blatant lie, will need a complete life change. Often people are afraid of change, they prevent it from happening by removing or denying everything that would cause that change.
For someone that found his way in religion later in life it could even be worse, cause a person has experience a life that he now things was wrong and his new life works a lot better. People have a tendency to reflect their own life experiences to others and there mistakes will be your wrongs as well in their eyes.

I do not fully agree with the greed argument either. I do think it is a form of vanity and arrogance but they are blinded by reasons mentioned above to accept other ways of thinking.

The question is...? Who actually benefits from blinding these people... ?

War has never been about religion. Rulers start wars citizens do not.
War has always been about power greed and on occasion the need to survive by taking other mans land.

Religion has always been a tool to get a lot of people likeminded. This means that they could and will fight for a common goal. Unfortunate this goal differs greatly from the people to the ruler still they blindly follow because they are easy influenced as a group.

Who ever is starting said war is who benefits from the "blinded" people.... Said ruler calls whatever opposing force a Heretical bunch. Local religious faction jumps on the band wagon or vice versa....and off to war we go, to slay the crazies that don't believe what we do...

Sound familiar?

The fact is a large group of "like minded people" can be a very dangerous thing indeed.

is indoctrination not a violation of human rights to right to think freely in such a case? in which case it should be banned and further still result in what would be viewed as oppression, it seems like they couldnt complain. the oppressed complaining about their right to oppress.

the point is that those people who are indoctrinated dont have a place in the modern world. we havent got time for these specific ideals and beleifs to conflict and fight with each other or even with neutral society that cares not for such matters.

yes wars are all about power and money, but whats the motive for those who beleive aliens are devils? theres no political agenda / potential shift of power or wealth associated all i see here some attention seeking. followed by some less independant thinkers.

A conflict that does not need to be one. As religious rulers are mostly acting out of self interest or that of their sponsers.

How would you explain the massive killing of Muslims among them selves. They are all Muslim followers of Mohamed children of Allah . Yet they cant even coexist with each other. This is not about religion. This is about power and the people on the street are a mere tool.

Not only that - if use their own stories and you take it way, way back, before Muhammad, the conflict between Judaism and Islam is one big long family feud. Ishmael's descendants became the Muslims, Isaac's descendants became the Jews. Both Ishmael and Isaac were sons of Abraham - same father, but by different mothers. Abraham's first wife didn't like the fact that he had a son by his second wife, so she demanded that this son (and his mom) be banished. The family feud starts there. The whole thing is crazy if you ask me...
