The story of the White house Anti war protesters have several threads here but I didn't see this posted.
Chris Hedges is one of the most respected journalists that I can think of.
Some of the comments he made particularly struck me and I think he summed up our situation since 9/11 to a "T":

We've undergone a corporate coup d'état in slow motion," he said. "Our public education system has been gutted. Our infrastructure is corroding and collapsing. Unless we begin to physically resist, they are going to solidify neo-feudalism in this country."

www.rawstory.com...

This country has one foot in the grave, wake up and smell the dirt people.
If we don't act now we may not be able to change anything later.
I say protesting won't work, but that's not to say it isn't worth doing.
Indeed, it is our Hail Mary pass.

Hedges continued, "As long as we have relative stability, these lunatic fringe movements can be held at bay, but if we don't undertake serious structural reform, which we're not doing, then it is inevitable that we will come to a tremendous crisis - economic and political as well as environmental."

That protest part is not going to happen anytime soon.

People have just become to complacent.

Why do you suppose the powers that be allowed millions of immigrants to come here and live, most from failed countries with corrupt politicians?

They want a populace that is so damn happy to not be living in their home country that they will allow any thing to take place.

ALL government jobs require you to be a U.S. citizen.

Another 25 to 30 million that are happy and complacent with no worry of being laid off.

Figure in those that are getting free money from the government, subsidized housing etc.

So who is left that is going to protest?

Right, but you can be in the military and a foreign citizen.

usmilitary.about.com...
Question: Can a non-U.S. Citizen join the United States Military?

Answer: Yes. A non-citizen can enlist in the military. However, federal law prohibits non-citizens from becoming commission or warrant officers.

No one will be left to protest. Its over, you lost folks.
