No I am not a parent.

I am a mortician who specializes in obesity embalming and I also run a health center. Where ironically enough I give free training to overweight people with time / money limitations. Most of the people I train are parents and they bring their kids in with them.

I am one of those with a "Gland Problem" actually its the autoimmune disease sarcoidosis

My problem is stupid doctors that only believe that my weight problem is caused by over eating and being lazy.

These same doctors are so stupid that they can not read the reports in my medical records that show that i have been DX by specialist with a number of disorders caused by my sarcoidosis including neurosarcoidosis that caused peripheral neuropathy(sarcoid neuropathy) and leaves me with pain like i am walking barefoot on broken glass. it has also left me with servere fibromyalgia.
The sarcoidosis has also attacked my endocrine system and is the direct cause of my weight problem
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov...
qjmed.oxfordjournals.org...

Diferant specialist from UCLA working for the VA have DXed these disorders and they are on my VA medical records.
and all my doctors can bring them up with just a mouse click, But some never do.

But at the same time i have primary care doctors working for the VA that tell me that i am lazy, not in pain, that fibromyalgia is not a real disorder, and put things in my records like that i am a drug seeker that i am not following a diet to lose weight and not taking medical advice.

I wonder how many of the people that are overweight have disorders that the doctors,
never looked for.
are not treating properly
dismissed as not real.
or never cared if there was another problem.

Many people believe what there doctors tell them even when its wrong or bad advice.
Many never question there doctors when the doctors tell them that nothing is wrong.

I was a EMT for 40 years and have seen doctors screw up so many times i question everything i feel is wrong
Guess what i am right 90% of the time and when i am wrong i still find i was right in questioning the doctors because they still find other things that need treatment.
I now have a doctor that made the comment that i know more about sarcoidosis then he does and he is a chest specialist that treats that type of disorder.
I think i will keep him for a while as he is willing to learn as he treats me. .

I remember my mom telling my dad that he owed it to her (and us, kids) and that she owed it to him (and us, kids) to do what's necessary to stay healthy and fit. Just grew up with that role-modeled for me and I believe she was right... If you have a spouse or kids, it is something you owe to them, as they do to you.

I have to agree with you, eating healthy, exercise and staying fit is not only good for a person, but for the people that need them most. You can't help anyone if you can not help yourself.

Mr. SLAYER69:

In my humble opinion, on your OP--

Logic: B+
Emotional Appeal: A+
Credibility: F; for all of the rollie-pollies, you need to post the before and after pictures of your personal experience of conquering fatness so that we know that you are qualified to speak on this subject-matter....

I was ashamed of my weight and avoided the camera the last couple of years.

This is before I lost an additional 5 pounds this past summer.

Also I wish to apologize if I've offended anyone. This was not directed towards those who have legitimate health issues beyond their control.

This was directed towards those who are self inflected with an overweight problem. They know what they did to get there and know what it will take to extract themselves.

Aww, Slay, love ya man, and I know what a good heart you have.

You are right, there is a problem. It's a combination of stress and fast food, methinks.

I don't stress-eat, but I....do other things. lol. Everybody's got some vice, I guess.

Fair enough.

This is just 1 venue in which to get the word out.
I go to the gym three time a week and help the new guys. too many only try for a week or two and when they haven't lost 20lbs they then get depressed and want to give up meanwhile they lost 2 lbs.

One 1 lb a week = 52 lbs in a year.

Lady,

I love how you are always so mysteriously cryptic.

Very sexy.

That's the prevalent thought with most doctors, as well as the accepted outlook just in case you haven't read the majority of the posts here.

But at the same time i have primary care doctors working for the VA that tell me that i am lazy, not in pain, that fibromyalgia is not a real disorder, and put things in my records like that i am a drug seeker that i am not following a diet to lose weight and not taking medical advice.

It's easier to say that when they are stumped of the causes which would require them to do some investigative work which most will not do. If you are getting your care from the VA only so much money is allotted to each patient so thorough lab work is often not done.

I wonder how many of the people that are overweight have disorders that the doctors,
never looked for.
are not treating properly
dismissed as not real.
or never cared if there was another problem.

I'm sure more than you and I can imagine. It's politically correct to assume people are just gluttonous and lazy then to believe that their health issues caused the obesity and not the other way around. There are folks beating themselves up for not being able to be a normal weight in spite of doing all the expecting things such as diet adjustments, exercise, and stress reduction.

Many people believe what there doctors tell them even when its wrong or bad advice.
Many never question there doctors when the doctors tell them that nothing is wrong.

We assume these people attend college for many years not to mention their internships and residencies they actually know what they are talking about. If you keep having problems and your doctor says your lab work is normal, then you as the patient must do your own research not just to find a more empathetic doctor but to find out what could be wrong with you.

Gulp. I didn't expect you to actually post pictures to the thread, but it does help "expert" opinion. And this statement lends more credibility as far as I am concerned:

I was ashamed of my weight and avoided the camera the last couple of years.

This is before I lost an additional 5 pounds this past summer.

Looking fit and healthy...credibility: "A"
