Exclusive: US empire could collapse at any time, Pulitzer winner tells Raw Story

www.rawstory.com

"We've undergone a corporate coup d'état in slow motion," he said. "Our public education system has been gutted. Our infrastructure is corroding and collapsing. Unless we begin to physically resist, they are going to solidify neo-feudalism in this country."

"If we think that Obama is bad, watch the next two years because these corporate forces have turned their back on him," Hedges warned.

This guy is one of the folks who got arrested recently for protesting in front of the whitehouse.

Ironically enough, although over a hundred plus folks were rounded up and tossed in jail during this protest, very little coverage showed anywhere on the mainstream media.

Almost as if they are HIDING it.

He paints a somber picture, and I am not so sure he may be exagerating anymore. We are sinking lower and lower under the past couple of admin's, and this current way of doing things simply cannot be sustained.

The corporate takeover of the entire political system has GUTTED this nation, and these endlessly greedy parasites just keep taking and taking, spending and spending, and we the tax-serfs keep getting handed their bills over and over, even though most of us have nothing left to give.

We would be wise to listen to this man's words---Washington sure isn't.

Yes, it is very obvious that we have news blackouts on certain stories. Good article, but this is hardly news for ATSers

He makes some good points but on the whole. I find this article highly politically motivated and bias that smacks of fear mongering.

Just my opinion.

Hedges, author of "Death of the Liberal Class," said that his vision of America is one with a functioning social democracy, which stands in stark contrast to the nihilism of the corporate state.

"American workers, as they are repeatedly told, will have to become competitive with prison labor in China," he said. "That's where we're headed, and all the pillars of the liberal establishment are complicit in this."

It almost seems as if the peoples of the world actually don't want to know what is going on and how bad it's actually getting.

How can anyone think that the way the world is doing things can continue like this.

A billion dollars is the new million and it doesn't seem long till everything is into the trillions. Dam...

Americans unite against totalitarianism,
Let the passive revolt begin,
Lay down your swords,
Take up your pens, your “magic marker” graffiti pens,
Scout out any and all targets of opportunity,
Government stop signs, U.S. property no-trespassing signs,
Wal-Marts, Goldman Sachs, monopolistic and global corporate logos,
“Terrorize” them, engage them in a relentless guerrilla sniping campaign,
Conduct unyielding search and deface missions,
Find the enemy, every self-serving element that represents tyranny,
One shot, one artistic instance of graffiti per target,
Take them out, piece meal,
Peace on earth.

This is what many of us have been saying for a long time now. Our system has been too far infiltrated by nefarious forces. What many people don't realize, is when our empire collapses, so will our economy, seeing how our money is only worth anything due to our empire. Without the dollar being the international standard for commodities and the international reserve currency, it would be almost completely worthless.

Sadly, things have to get worse before they can get better but even still we have an up-hill battle, seeing how our rights are being taken on almost a daily basis. When things get really hairy, we will have no means of recourse to deal with them and hopefully bounce back. In a way, we kind of deserve it for failing to live up to our responsibility that was handed down to us by the generation before us.

Regardless, people won't realize that we have been had, until the world around us collapses and by then, it will be far too late.

Great story. Thanks. ...our economy is a corporate economy, linked symbiotically to the global corporate economy. If these guys really have turned their back on Obama, as Hodges says, then it will indeed fall apart. Which means it CAN be rebuilt - differently. ...My fear - Obama knows he can't survive a full-out transition, so he'll over-compromise in negotiations with corporate toadie Harper for the North American Union, and trade away the First Amendment if not the whole Bill of Rights.

"American workers, as they are repeatedly told, will have to become competitive with prison labor in China," he said. "That's where we're headed, and all the pillars of the liberal establishment are complicit in this."

"At least if you get sick in the UK, you don't go bankrupt or die," he added.

Hedges said that another pressure point is the US dollar, which he pointed out had been dropped by Russia and China in favor of modified ruble/renminbi exchanges.

"A few more deals like that, and our currency becomes junk," he said.

Hedges continued, "As long as we have relative stability, these lunatic fringe movements can be held at bay, but if we don't undertake serious structural reform, which we're not doing, then it is inevitable that we will come to a tremendous crisis - economic and political as well as environmental."

I believe in this case they are hiding it. I think the view from the top of the government looks like the small, but numbered populous is about to pop. Riots in the streets everywhere BUT here. For now. I would think that some of the media would want some riots in the streets to sell more Swiffers.

Capitalism is always one crisis away from it demise … always has been and always will be. Gotta love that Chris Hedges, always good for a laugh.

yeah... capitalism had some great points and even out done communism for a while. But a lack of regulation and 'greed is good' culture can only go so far. It is pretty sad but any system not designed to last, won't last. Since 9/11 America got infected with a pretty bad case of delusion and has really made matters worst. Wall Street does have some very significant problems with creative accounting practices getting out of hand and comprehension. I have seen some reports where the derivative market is valued in the quadrillion of dollars (more money than in the rest of the world) yet does not have the assets to back it. Basically, the derivative market is a big casino, some have also identified it as a pyramid scheme in the way it is being managed. The recent bailouts helped buy some time but failed to get at the problems.

This a very big, deep and technical problem. I am not sure of all the repercussions and ways to manage it but some things are going to have to change.

I don't think it is just the American Empire, but the entire world systems of control are beginning to collapse.

Its not just the dollar that may collapse, but the Euro is almost in the same shape.

The corporate coup in my opinion was or is a global coup. A system that relied on greed to grow our world wide system is now collapsing under the weight of the same greed plus corruption. Those movers and shakers are so blinded by wealth and power that they will sacrifice there own system to make a short term profit.

I totally agree with Mr. Hedges. Great thread.

The country is going down the tubes because the people have been brainwashed by the corporate philosophy, led by Republican conservativism and turncoat fake progressives like Obama and Clinton, regarding taxation, unionism, outsourcing, foreign wars, and the military industrial system.

The hope that the main tool of the corporations, the Republican Party, was finished was the last hope that the country could be saved, but now that they have been revived means the elite will finish us off.

A lot of things are on the move right now. France and Norway have both now recognised Palestine as a Nation - this is a big break away from the US/Israel cosy coalition. EU has made a public statement asking Israeli to stop the settlements. . At the G20 in China there were reports that Obama was laughed at and shunned. Now, although much more trivial, it looks as though UK is shunning the Obamas at William's wedding. They will not be amongst the headss of state who are invited. Ron Paul is publicly slamming the Fed Res and publicly stating that the government lies all the time. I was intrigued by his recent statement that the Fed Res will destroy itself. Some people are reporting that WL cables are sending shock waves throughout the world. There are many reports of investigations into massive fraud involving the main satanist vipers in US politics, Huge US debts have to be repaid to foreign countries, including China, by end of January and it seems the Fed doesn't have the money to pay. The war in Iran didn't fly. There are reports that many of the military are ready to abandon the vipers. It does look as though the White House of Iniquity could be imploding.

If the empire collapses and the corporations go under with it, that will be a hugely positive outcome...I'm just praying that an empire collapse, if it happens, won't leave the Corporations in total control. Monsanto, for example...it cannot, must not and will not happen.

It's an orgy of neocons and neoprogressives, neither of which is anything but a corporate pawn. In actuality there are many issues that true conservatives and true progressives would happily agree about.

They are all the corporate party. They are all pawns of the banksters and mega corporate interests.

Absolutely there is an active campaign by the fed to cover up the true toll of their actions. We will not know the true scope of the coming troubles.

For example: Like releasing figures of numbers of deaths that they were directly responsible for, but not indirect numbers, which could be 3 times as much.

Or suicide rates... Will we really ever know, or is it being censored in the 'interests of national security'

The PTB knows that pictures of soldiers pointing rifles and MG's at protesters outside Congressional buildings is bad PR and they will try to slow down the damage as much as possible so to not provoke too much people to action by hiding the true horror.

We will not know the true effects of our society on our younger folks- will they learn the trades which includes the medical fields AND have pride in working for their community, but will they have that desire... Knowing that external forces like the Rothschilds and the Rockefellers is stealing from them and poisoning them.

They will be the aware generation, raised on the internet. They might even die for the internet, knowing that if they are disconnected from the world, they are doomed.

There will be no more interest by our youth in repairing our already-crumbling infrastructure, to learn medicine to take care of future dying members of ATS, and even less interest in the rest of the old folks, who failed their generation by not forcing them to say 'No' to Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga or to war...
