First of all, I am not racist. Some of my best friends are.......

Just kidding, OK, I remember the message Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was trying to get across. He wanted everyone to be judged on the content of their character and not the color of their skin. I couldn't agree more with that. We all know there are some inherent worries built into us with anything or anyone that's different than us, but with most intelligent people, those are not deal breakers when it comes to friendship. So while I am thinking all the while that we are truly moving toward equality, I hear a McDonalds add on the radio saying that they use some Black owned companies and then there are some black sounding men talking about how they should go to McDonalds since they are helping their group. Did I miss a step here? Is there a movement against equality? Did Dr. King die for nothing? Please help me understand this.

edit to add:
Apparently it's part of some new campaign.

I don't understand... Can you be more specific about what bothered you about the commercial? I don't really get it.

Equality is nice and all but ganging up all of your buddies to work as a unit is better. If you can use your minority status to finagle a couple of helping boosts along the way why not take advantage?

It seemed that they singled out a company because it was black owned, then exploited the fact that they used their products. I would have thought that because a company had good products and good service would be a reason to use them, not because they were of a certain color. To me, that goes directly against working toward equality. It's separation. Not only separation, but exploiting it for sales benefit. It was like saying that since McDonalds buys "whatever" product from a black owned company that all black people should get burgers there.

To me is seems as a marketing ploy to say, "see we aren't racist"..
I think the majority of people would want equality. It's just that you have ignorant people of every race that think that they should get special treatment and be number 1.. I am all for equality. No matter what you do though even if it was equal amongst all races, you are still going to have morons that cry about how they are done unjust and scream racism.

that is exactly what I was getting out of it. Just like the joke I used in the OP.
Equality should be shown by actions, not by shouting "I am not a racist!".

If I was a minority group and some company did an add campaign like this, I would feel quite used.

You haven't heard of anything yet.

Look into minority owned businesses and disadvantaged business entities (DBE) and how only they may participate in the "Stimulus Package". Then you'll see how equal we really are.

Thing is SOME minorities have lost connection to reality. They have because they have become richer and feel SPECIAL because there is a Africanaz prez. SOME not all, because many minorities are still caught in the struggle and are not 2010 ized to feel they are of oppressor level.. On the other hand there are Africanaz Americanaz U.S. who have located the elite level of consciousness and have began to minipulate the masses to their judgments (EVEN WITH COMMERCIALS YES THEY ARE EFFECTIVE)...SAD for many of them were the minipulated not to many decades ago and have forgotten how lame it is to oppress. So now some feel they have power and wish to take advantage of power routs that once were used by their oppressors and now their past oppressors have became more powerful overlords and gave the oppressor positions to the NEGROs. Some of the negros are becomming pig headed arses and are failing to see the game being played on them because they have located power and BILLIONS SMH...

natas IS NOT racist HE WILL USE WHICH EVER RACE HE CAN THAT IS IN POWER MODE TO DO HIS WORKZ AND MANY CANNOT SEE... So yes to answer the Op blacks and other minorities still want equality. Its just now we got pig headed black folk with power running ish and they feel elite. SAD because I still see projects and other urban communities overran from the last protocal to depopulate and imprison and non of these NEW BLACKS WITH POWER ARE REBUILDING THESE POVERISH COMMUNITIES AND REBUILDING THE SCHOOLS TO HELP on a MASSIVE SCALE (REDO ALL THE HOODS). Nope they are making DONATIONS that kick right back into their pockets and thats all that it takes to make them feel good (they are following the last oppressors who are now overlords). Others are deep into the game of drugs which is a large part of were the power comes from hence previous generations and how they were oppressed. As long as their overlords are paid they have amnesty to hustle globally for good w/o being touched JUST AS THE LAST OPPRESSORS WERE ALLOWED TO. Some are locked into running ish instead of CHANGING THE PATTERN ALL TOGETHER BECAUSE THE PATTERN MAKES $$$$$$.

Its not as if the new powerful negro wanted to behave ignorantly they are just mimmicking what they have observed since entering the elite level of consciousness and feel there is a balance that needs to be made. EYE for an EYE in some ways.

I don't know if you're a white heterosexual man or not, but I'm going to assume that you are.

I'm a woman, so let me tell you something about being a member of a minority (a group that has been historically oppressed by the majority). When we see how we can 'help out our own', many will take the opportunity to do so, because of historical oppression. For example, many women wanted Hillary to be the next president (not me). But the reason was that she was a woman, who might focus more attention on women's rights and women's needs. Being a part of a minority is a special situation, especially when equality starts to be a realistic goal.

You may see women who own companies who make it a practice to hire women when they can... To kind of balance out the historical inequality. In the same way, you will see black business owners who try to hire more black people or buy things from black businesses. It's simply a matter of trying to level the playing field.

And don't forget, for many years, white people hired white people and did business with while companies. They didn't TALK about it, but that's what they did. Always chose the white person over the black. Now, the pendulum might be swinging the other way before it settles at true equality. It's something I can live with.

Yes, I'm ALL for equality. But I also understand when a minority member tries to make it easier for one of their own group. Eventually, I hope to see true equality, but we're just not there yet.

Men are NOT equal in the United States.

Since we are an Affirmative Action Socialist State people who refuse to study hard and excel can get college scholarships even though they are dumb as a rock.

We refuse to put intelligent people into places we NEED intelligent people and therefor is part of the reason America has been on the decline.

Meanwhile other countries that put intelligent people in charge are prospering by leaps and bounds over us.

I don't blame our public schools for failing over the last decade or so. We no longer reward people for being intelligent in America.

In the 1950's we created the H-x Visa program to bring in a few mexicans to pick our crops. The elite are now using the H-x Visa program to bring intelligent people from other countries into America to work for them. They save a ton of money doing it this way, and they've got an entire nation of imbeciles who'll keep buying their poisoned products.

If Black people had any intelligence they would be demanding Barrack Hussein secure the southern border. The Latin America/Mexican/ and South American boys are taking control of America street by street taking away blacks drug territory. The mega Billions in free welfare/section 8/healthcare being given to illegal immigrants means Blacks are losing their social welfare.

Barrack had to use the 2014 Food Stamp funds as collatoral to take out a mega-Billion loan to pay the Unionized Teachers and Police this year. Blacks are getting robbed blind of their social welfare by Non-Americans by their very own Democratic Party who is selling them out to the non-americans. It's making the Democratic Party lots of money and those illegal immigrants heads count in the census to get the Democratic Party more House of Representative seats....which they are using to royally screw over the blacks in this country. And they don't even know it.

I am all for those groups helping each other and helping themselves. My problem is having a corporation take that and exploit it, make a profit off of it, then push back years of advancement in trying to bring about equality. Nobody is being judged by the content of their character, they are being exploited because of the color of their skin. Perhaps its just me who sees it this way.

I see your point.

But sometimes people are willing to be somewhat exploited if there's a benefit that outweighs their discomfort. For me to really understand, I like to analogize it to women. If McDonald's was saying, "We use products made by companies owned by women", and there were some women saying - "Yes, Marge, let's go to McDonald's because they help women", I don't think it would be a big deal.

Would you think such an ad was strange, too? Would that put back women's lib so many years? I don't see it.

Equality? Nope, but some segments of society are treated "special". I dont care much for the group think PC junk, my opinion is that blacks... since thats what your OP is referencing.... are no longer wanting equality.. they want special treatment. Women too... and Im a woman... Im a racial minority woman. I could write volumes on this, but in a nutshell and calling it like I see it: This equality BS is just that.. big pile of BS that certain segments of the population manipulate for gain and special treatment... and the PC crowd doesnt want you to voice what is plain to see. Blacks also want segregation.. they want their own speech, manufactured "culture", own clothing ( I have a story about my daughter wearing Apple bottoms jeans and the black girls beating her up onthe bus for wearing THEIR clothes) and etc etc ad nauseum. Rather than integrating they have made a point to set themselves apart, yet still want to reap the benefits and get special treatment. Kind of seems like their community leaders are screwing them over and the feds got their way with the blacks. They have a new slave master.. the fed govt.. and seem to really enjoy it.

If I ran a business.. my family owns several and Ive seen what this "equality" actually is even in that sense... Id be damned if Id hire someone to meet some stupid quota. Id hire the best person for the job... I dont care what race or sex they are. Probably why I dont own a business.. I feel most of the federal/state rules. laws. and guidelines on private businesses are oppressive.

Being a "real" minority myself, Im sick and tired of the blacks whining all the time and smearing the blood of their ancestors on themselves to "get paid" through reparations and special treatment. I abhor it when my own people try that crap, but the blacks seem to have made that part of their entire culture. You whites dont owe ME anything and I dont need your help. Our ancestors can fight it out between themselves.. I am smart enough as was my family to assimilate into American life and enjoy the rewards of hard work and lived the "American Dream". I admire MLK.. always have.If there is an afterlife and he sees what his words have been twisted into supporting, I imagine it is a soul sickening thing. MLK had it right, too bad his people used him and didnt take the real motivation he has in doing what he did to heart.
