Warning I have been a game junkie from 1979 to present.
going in order of progression through the 'ages'.

Defender/Missle Command/Adventure->Atari 2600 (One of the first to have easter eggs/hidden features!)

DK/Crystal Castles/Pole Position(cockpit style)/Sinistar/Tempest->80's coin-op

Bionic Commando/Metal Gear/Master Blaster/Zelda/Metroid/Dragon Warrior/Final Fantasy/Faria(I loved rpg's and high depth games)/Tetris->NES

Sim City Classic->PC

Super Metriod/mario paint/KillerInstinct over X-band /Shadowrun/X-Caliber/Syndicate/FF2/FF3/Chrono igger/Mechwarrior->SNES

Phantasy Star2/Sonic/Golden Ax->Genesis

Doom/Myst->PC

Saga Frontier/D/Twisted Metal2->PS1

mario Kart 64/CrusinUSA/Quest 64/Robotron 64(3d version of 80's coin-op)/Robotech Crystal Dreams(by emulation.. PD rom)->Nin64

Advance Wars/Metriod Fusion/Golden Sun -> GBA

Half-Life/The Sims/Fallout/Fallout2(both are top always!)/Deus Ex1/Tribes->PC
This list is still not exhausted, just made as concise as possible.

I am sad to see platform,isometric, and bird's eye view games vanish. I will still continue to code them (albeit in small unfinished demos lol) until hands finally fall off...
