Wow, some of you must have some relation to Stretch Armstrong to be able to reach that far! I didn't see anything that said "Boink your sibling, have more coffee." Just a mediocre portrayal of close siblings that was indeed a tad sappy.
See what you will in the commercial, but remember that your own subconscious can influence what you see

I've noticed that those who do not see anything strange in the video by and large attribute what those of us that do to our own perversions or lack of ability to accept "brotherly" love and familial ties. Nonsense. That was weird as hell, and if you don't see that, you must not want to. It's like pornography, I may not be able to define sexual subliminal messages, but I know them when I see them.
Like a former poster commented, even if the female actor wasn't directed specifically to have her hand between her legs, (and I still believe she was) it would certainly have been noticed in editing and the decision to use that take must have been a conscious one. Commercials are brief and concise and deliberate, to attribute the aforementioned signals to carelessness or oversight is naive.

Yes, but the big question is.....Will the thought of incest now haunt you every time you make a pot of coffee?
My sister is coming to stay with us over the holiday....I think I am going to switch to tea just to be safe.

Hahahahaha

That was a truly funny comment.

I don't know what it is like to have a sister. So, I honestly cannot relate. That is why I said that some brothers and sisters might act this way, but I don't know of any that do.

I see an attempt to create a feel-good ad for the holidays. Very typical of Folgers coffee. If it's coming across as "off" it's the bad acting. Also very typical of Folgers commercials. Do people really think Subliminal Incest (if that's what you see) was intentional? Geez...

I will jump in......

I have seen this commercial a zillion times. The first time I saw it I found it odd. I found the looks exchanged between the two not normal brother/sister looks. I have brothers. I have been close to them while growing up. We loved each other and were friends and hung out together into our adult life.

Every time I would see the commercial, I would think the same thing; something is not right about it.

I saw the commercial again today. Thought the same thing.

I log onto ATS t'night and see this thread and was floored that others were seeing something odd about it too.

I did not notice the hand thing......its the gaze between the two of them. If I saw it in a romantic type movie......it would be a gaze that lovers gave each other.

Call me whatever name you want
.....I find it a very odd. Im not saying anything is subliminal or conspiratorial really...just saying the gazing look between the male and female is more "romantic" to me than "brother/sister love". Someone else mentioned maybe some "off scene" chemistry going on....that is a possibility IMO.

So what you people are saying is Folgers wants people to believe if they drink Folgers coffee it will awaken the desire to fornicate with your siblings? Why would they want to do that?

I don't see it anyway. Just some bad actors and a weird plot. Maybe it was just because the girl is cute.

1) The first time I saw this I thought the look she gives him when she says "you're my present" was definitely not a sister talking to her brother. I don't think that was Folgers intention, but it's there.

2) The people denying the incestuous nature clearly act daily on their incestuous impulses! (See how stupid it sounds to make rash generalizations about people who think differently)

3) My wife thinks it hilarious that this thread showed up as that commercial has been a joke with us since it was on tv last year.

No, that is not what anybody is saying. Subliminal sex in advertising is not there to make you want to have sex; it is there to make you want to buy the product being advertised.

Nobody is implying that Folger's thinks your conscious mind is going to say, "Oh boy, I think incest is really hot! Therefore, I will buy Folger's!"

Remember, this is about subliminal advertising. The idea is that it appeals to your subconscious, non-rational mind.

To everybody else, I have two things to say:

a) Please re-read my original post and tell me where I said that the claims being made about this video were true. I merely quoted somebody else's statements about the video, provided links to it and to the original version from the 1980s, and gave you all an opportunity to comment. So please stop putting words in my mouth and claiming that I'm sick for making this observation, because the observation was not mine in the first place.

b) Do you realize how hysterical you sound when you assert so vehemently that there's nothing fishy going on with this video? If there really was "nothing to see here," then this thread would have died on the vine like so many of my other threads. The mere fact that it's now three pages long and counting, and filled with vigorous denials, is a strong indicator to me that there really is something wrong with this video, something so wrong that it's caused a lot of you to freak out while you insist that there's nothing there.

Explain to me how this would work. Why would I buy a product because the brother and sister were flirting with each other. I don't get it. Wouldn't I have to be inclined to incest before advertising like that would work on me?

OP you are looking way too far outta the box on this one, this is pretty innocent in my book. Don't start becoming a whacko on us now.

The following is no way intended to offend anyone. But the fact of the matter is... Many people are NOT supposed to see it. This is how it works. I have spent years researching these types of ploys, and this is almost never noticed, but thats the intent.

I am very proud that this is being seen by many, whether agree or not, now looking at other commercials you will look twice. This is a form of awakening the brain that is otherwise dormant. Our subconscious is seeing things in a larger light, it just doesn't happen to everyone, or at the same time.

How this thread became something of pointing fingers, and making very insensitive remarks to members that saw what the OP stated, is very childish, and heartbreaking. If you didn't see it, then fine, but those who did, know what they saw, the same as those who didn't.

But please by any means we can still discuss the ploys of these agencies and companies that are slowly infiltrating the minds of others, not just with commercials, but movies, and print.

The company did right by the commercial by spanning the most important part (buying the coffee), and different emotions, and yes even some of those that were expressed here. Your not supposed to make love to your sibling, but the emotional (whether deviant or not), was the emotion that you will feel when you are in the coffee isle.

Peace, NRE.

The first time that I watched didnt pay much attention to be honest, but the second time when they refer each other like 'brother and sister',kind of make paid more attention to the plot of the commercial, just in time when FOLGERS ANNOUNCE A HIKE IN THEIR PRICES!!!!!.of course all is part of marketing, and is for sure that the final result is to put the product in peoples minds.

I watched that commercial a few more times and I think I get it. In the beginning he says he is at the wrong house implying that the little sister has really grown up since he left so he could hardly recognize her. She tells him she waited up all night for for him. Kinda creepy but okay I can buy it. He tells her he had a present and she gets all giddy. She takes the bow and tells him, quite seductively, that he is her present this year with a little sexy smile. I was thinking if that was my sister I would punch her in the shoulder and tell her to stop being a little slut. But instead, this brother smiles like he is totally into his little sister that grew up while he was away. It felt like if the parents hadn't walked in, they were going to clear off that counter top and go for it right there.

Maybe I only see that now because I was looking for it. I don't know.

Regardless of the chemistry between the two, which is obvious after a few time watching it. The fact that you can go back and forth at .26 seconds and clearly see the girl with her hand in her crotch giving a rubbing like motion, is definately done on purpose or was done on accident and was definately kept in during the editing process. But- sex sells, So they have it in the commercial. Disturbing- but what else is new.

I really don't see how someone can take this for an ad for incest, its a loving family reuniting and expressing joy.

I'll be honest though, I laughed for a good 5 minutes before being able to compose myself enough to type.

I don't think you'd have to be inclined toward incest to be manipulated by this commercial. Subliminal advertising preys upon the viewer's subconscious mind, which is a mysterious place where all manner of strange impulses may lurk, impulses which are not even truly ours.

To truly understand this stuff, I heartily recommend Wilson Bryan Key's book, The Clam Plate Orgy. It is, unfortunately, out of print. Order a used copy from Amazon while you still can:

His follow up book, Subliminal Seduction, is equally valuable and equally out of print:

See what you think of this commercial. It also seems slightly creepy to me:
