A type of salmon thought to be extinct for the past 70 years has been found alive and well in a lake in Japan.

Scientist says he found Japan fish thought extinct

TOKYO – A Japanese salmon species thought to be extinct for 70 years is alive and well in a lake near Mount Fuji, a science professor said Wednesday.

The black kokanee, or "kunimasu" in Japanese, was thought to have died out in 1940, when a hydroelectric project made its native lake in northern Akita Prefecture more acidic.

I'm happy there are still some swimming around. Hopefully they will make it.

What is very surprising to me is given how heavily populated Japan is that they were able to go undiscovered for 70 years.

I started a thread earlier this year about something similar with a crytpo theme:

you can see it here

The story there is about approx 1/3 of all previously thought extinct mammals have been found living aline and well. They simply adapted to human interference by changing habitats or adjusting their diet.

I personally believe that there are many more where these came from.

Star and flag, I love these stories. Which 'extinct' species will be next?
Its obvious that there are many places on Earth of undersea that are either unexplored or underexplored.
