strategy for "unthinkable attack"

Interesting that after all the obvious "talk of" such an event happening and being "possible" they are finally deciding to be more vocal about preparations and educating the people. Wonder if they know something we don't..

maybe the good ole 50-60's era "American Backyard Bunkers" will make a come back...

Suppose the unthinkable happened, and terrorists struck New York or another big city with an atom bomb. What should people there do? The government has a surprising new message: Do not flee. Get inside any stable building and don’t come out till officials say it’s safe. The advice is based on recent scientific analyses indicating that a nuclear attack is much more survivable if you immediately shield yourself from the lethal radiation that follows a blast, a simple tactic seen as saving hundreds of thousands of lives. Even staying in a car, the studies show, would reduce casualties by more than 50 percent; hunkering down in a basement would be better by far. But a problem for the Obama administration is how to spread the word without seeming alarmist about a subject that few politicians care to consider, let alone discuss. So officials are proceeding gingerly in a campaign to educate the public.

Star and Flag for getting this one in here. Makes you think about WHY this would be an issue. The last time the Gov started educating the people on such a thing was when they were going off.

If you can handle some foul language put forth in an intelligent manner, hit Youtube and check out Lewis Black's hilarious rant on Nuclear Holocaust.

I love Lewis Black, he is one of "better era" of comics that is dying out such as Carlin and Hicks.

Anyhow ya what struck me about the article enough to post is how abrupt and straight forward it is for a rather "touchy subject" they traditionally haven't been willing to acknowledge in this manner.

Imagine Obama standing up there going:

Look, we're not saying to worry... there's nothing you should be worried about, really. I mean, we're only saying this... you know... just because.

Stay in your car if a nuke goes off.

OH, the reactions would be PRICELESS.

The problem as I see it is no matter how truthful the statement that Obama makes, folks will do the exact opposite given his track record for truth telling.
