I believe the yodel has its origins in Austria... If Muslims move to Austria they should be aware of it and not offended. I truly think and believe that this goes too far. If they feel offended by it they need to leave Austria because to me it is a shame that an Austrian can't even conduct his or her traditions because it might offend someone of another nationality. If you move in a foreign country you should research what they are doing and if you feel that you would be offended by it then stay the f!ck out of there.

Your moniker is very appropriate. Is that your excuse for not having read the thread??

This thread belongs in the hoax bin because that is what the original story was - BS.

It is not about yodelling. It is about being somebody going out of his way to be disrespectful, annoying and disruptive to his neighbours. Take the blindfolds off and read the story!

American man gets jail time for blasphemy

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- An Indonesian court has sentenced an American businessman to five months in jail for marching into a mosque during Islamic prayers and ripping cables from the loud speakers.

Gregory Lloyd Luke was found guilty of blasphemy.

Mohammad Bilal, an official at the Praya District Court on Lombok island, said the 64-year-old was given a relatively lenient sentence because he was apologetic and polite during the hearings.

Luke, himself a Muslim, has a lodge for tourists on Kuta beach. He stormed into the nearby mosque during prayers on Aug. 26 and disabled the speakers, which he said were too noisy.

A mob attacked him and ransacked his house, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage

The original story is not BS, it happened.

There were other sides to the story, which make the situation more controversial.

Didn't you bother to read the thread?

The court in Graz was told the Muslim family came to view his open-air versions of the Alpine chanting as racist besides being aimed at them, and they claimed he was trying to "mock and imitate" the call of the Muezzin.

"It was not my intention to imitate or insult them. I simply started to yodel a few tunes because I was in such a good mood," the Daily Mail quoted Griese as telling Austria's Kronen newspaper.

The court also heard that things heated up when Griese was both mowing his lawn and yodelling as the family were praying, and when the police were called he was issued with a summons.

He was charged with the arcane offences of 'disparagement of religious symbols', which is usually reserved for neo-Nazis who desecrate Jewish graves, and 'hindering religious practice'.

Yes by settlers I mean all nationalities,,,, but I know of none of them trying to force their beliefs on everyone else,,, they blended into the country and didn't try to make it into the country they left behind by forcing changes on the rest...
Actually, just as a point of fact, with no bias for or against muslims, that is a load of bollocks. How much do you even know about the cultures of those displaced by European settlers? Do you live by any of the beliefs of the cultures your ancestors did their best to enact genocide upon & erase from history? Do you even live by the ideals that your criminal ancestors espoused?

It looks as if you are mistaken.

Because if there are no follow-up interviews with the people involved Im going to start asking myself whether these people actually exist.

There are so many newspaper stories where you never find out what emerged afterwards.

Here in Canada they figured they should have some become RCMP police ,,, then started demanding that bubbles be placed on the roofs of the police cars so they could wear their turbans,,,,,,hmmmm
Well, this too sounds like bollocks to me. I suppose it depends on who you mean by "they". As it happens, whilst some muslims do prefer a particular head garment, a turban is very unlikely. Perhaps you mean Sikhs?
Whatever you mean, I'm sure that if such a ludicrous idea were actually true, there would be a credible news source that had reported it. Is there? Linky please.
See, I've been to Edmonton & Calgary. Despite the outrageous cost of insurance, I've hired cars there. Damn me if those cars didn't have adjustable seats!

Oh hang on, you must be refering to that well known Alberta statute that, due to recent muslim influence, requires all cars to have the drives's seat jacked up to its maximum height & welded in place so that, not only can nobody of average height wear a hat comfortably, but also their eye level is raised to the point that they cant properly see where they're going. I hear the UN are looking into the needless deaths caused by this law...
Just think, will you?

It seems that the austrian neighbor had A HABIT of teasing the muslim family with yodeling EVERYTIME the muslims prayed so the decision was not bad after-all and the austrian DESERVED to be fine, if not face stiffer penalties.

I am sorry, I was not aware of all the details because the OP left them out at the beginning of his post and made it seem it was a one time affair, which sounded unbelievably perposterous and hence all the muslim hate posts.

Seriously people, if you don't know all the details PLEASE do not post hateful threads because they are MISLEADING!!!

I having NOTHING against any religion and respect most if not all of them. Its the silly people with silly claims that piss me off.

This subject really ticks me off. Can anyone out there honestly say that if Muslims took control of any . . . well lets say all . . . governments of the world that they would maintain ANY tolerance toward other religions or for that matter beliefs outside their own. I have to say that I highly doubt it. I would go further to say that MANY would be in prison/re-education camps or laying in a mass grave; Islam is not tolerant of any beliefs other than their own when it pertains to long term goals.

And please don't call me prejudice . . . because I am not . . . I simply watch and read the news and view any documentaries I can find on the subject. In addition I have spoken to a couple of acquaintances of my sisters from her college study group . . . Muslims, the conversations were very enlightening on how they view Non-Muslims and the philosophy they are taught in this regard. So, the ones that do know, please don't lie to me or the other infidels here even though it is said to be permissible to do so.

And if this yodeler is doing his yodeling simple to irritate his neighbors then I would have to say shame on him and he deserves what he got but some of the attacks against him here are ridiculous, naive, and misleading.

Now that I'd like to hear! With a decent break-beat & phat bassline behind it, please. On a Sunday morning. Loud. When I'm just getting to the stage where the night before is becoming an edge on my chill so I'm looking forward to some gentle sex, a lot of beer & some prescription meds to carry me through til the next time I have to be a responsible adult. Hey, its a bit childish. So what? It'd just feel like a nice bit of revenge for all the times during the 80-90s when, in similar circumstances, my chill was interrupted by christians clanging away like we should all give a monkey's toss that they were about to worship themselves.

What do we have to look forward to?

Majority of Muslims want Islam in politics, poll says

A majority of Muslims around the world welcome a significant role for Islam in their countries' political life, according to a new poll from the Pew Research Center

According to the survey, majorities in Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan and Nigeria would favor changing current laws to allow stoning as a punishment for adultery, hand amputation for theft and death for those who convert from Islam to another religion.

About 85% of Pakistani Muslims said they would support a law segregating men and women in the workplace.

Muslims in Indonesia, Egypt, Nigeria and Jordan were among the most enthusiastic, with more than three-quarters of poll respondents in those countries reporting positive views of Islam's influence in politics: either that Islam had a large role in politics, and that was a good thing, or that it played a small role, and that was bad.

www.latimes.com...

The Pew Poll itself

% of Muslims who want DEATH PENALTY for those leaving Islam:

Jordan (86%)
Egypt (84%)
Pakistan (76%)

% of Muslims endorsing STONING TO DEATH of adulterers:

Egypt (82%)
Pakistan (82%)
Jordan (70%)

Is it good or bad for Islam to play a Large Role in Politics?

Egypt Good (95%)
Bad 2%
Indonesia Good (95%)
Bad 4%
Pakistan Good (88%)
Bad 6%
Nigeria Good (88%)
Bad 7%
Lebannon Good (72%)
Bad 19%
Jordan Good (52%)
Bad 37%
Turkey Good (45%)
Bad 38%

pewglobal.org...

So it look as if Muslims around the world, don't believe in the separation of state and religion.

Isn't that unconstitutional?

any way!!!...to get back on topic ..it is ridiculous that he was fined for yodelling, i remeber about 5-6 years ago i worked in a restuaraunt that was run by muslims, i answered the phone, for delivery orders and bookings, and when i first started there i wore a black vest top with black trousers and i was told to cover my shoulders...so from then on i did, and i remember i was going home and went into the back to get my coat and one of them was on his mat or rug praying, i was unawares of the whole praying to allah thing and walked past and stepped on his rug with my shoes on....well if looks could kill my head would have been rolling on the floor..but i didnt know anything.

i found them to be very angry people, shouting all the time, shouting at me, etc i didnt last long in there as they were a utter nightmare to work for.

i then went on to work for indians at an indian resturaunt and i can say hand on heart that they are extremely pleasant people and i worked there for 2 years and loved it....lovely people....

Yeah ha ha, this reminds me when i lived in Bristol, went to get a mini cab from this shop front to town centre, it just happened to run by muslims, so anyhow I stood at the counter and booked a cab for this angry little runt to come running over shouting about what i was standing on, yes his prayer mat right over the counter, anyhow massive arguement with this idiot etc, but to top it off unknown to me was the the pile of dog # on my shoe which i had trod well into his little piece of magic carpet, man he was well upset, tears and all, me being slightly drunk found this utterly hilarious, no doubt this little event turned him even more extreme towards western culture and subsequently ended up in Afganistan as a foreign insurgent.

The Muslims I know aren't particularly offended by any of that, so let's all stop blindly bashing a whole group of people...or is it that all Black people are criminals and all Mexicans are lazy, too?

But these are different things. It's not a race issue, it's a religious issue. Nobody is complaining about middle eastern Christians or Jews.
