This sounds weird, so let me start off by saying I have no mental health issues whatsoever.

As far back as I can remember, I've been able to do this thing. If I concentrate on a specific body part (limbs only really) for a few seconds, it gets "ticklish" sort of. A few seconds more and said body part will begin twitching and the pressure will become unbearable (not in a painful way though) at which point I usually knock it off.

Over the years, I've lost it a bit and now it can mostly just be done to my feet. Used to be the hands and arms were just as susceptible as the legs and feet. I can still do upper limbs, but the pressure doesn't get to that unbearable/twitching point, just tickles a bit.

When I was a kid I assumed everyone could do such a thing and would do it for kicks.

Does anyone know what the heck I'm talking about? I believe there's a scientific explanation, but I've never met anyone else that could do it. And try googling ticklish feet and all you get are pr0n sites.

I don't believe I have "healing powers" or anything special like that. Things die around me all the time. So what is the evolutionary purpose behind this particular phenomenon?

Sorry if this isn't a good forum for this, I couldn't figure out where else to stick it. Mods feel free to move, thanks.

Sounds like Kundalini except your creating a ticking feeling instead of heat. I have a similar feeling I create which feels like the shivers but I run it up and down my spine. At first it's a little uncomfortable but after a few minutes it feels great.

I would think any control of your bodies energy like this would be a good thing.

Thank you, I'll look into that! Could be there is a practical use after all, if it aids in meditation (which I don't do, but have been considering taking up).

Speaking of porn sites......that avatar and the knowledge that you can concentrate on any body part and make it "tingly" and now I won't be able to get anymore work done tonight!

More on topic:
I believe we all have the ability to at least heal ourselves and maybe even others. Have you tried to concentrate on a sore muscle or a scratch or cut? I'm sure it won't be instant, but I bet you could recover from an injury very quickly with some minor meditation.

And the answer is no. I have never heard of anyone mentally tickling themselves, but it sounds terrific.....and erotic!

On a related topic:
Have you ever tried to remember pain? I have had some major injuries and some major pain and I cannot begin to imagine what it felt like. I have tried, but there is a block, it is impossible to "experience" the pain without a physical stimulus. I remember that it hurt, but I can't feel it.

I haven't a clue what it is either but I can do it too.

Only in one area though, my lower stomach. To me it feels more like an orgasm yet it isn't, that's the only way I can describe it. Being a guy if that was the case it would show up in two ways. Also no sexual thoughts are needed.

I like you thought everyone could do it too.

But yes, it is very strange.

It is your inner chi/energy. Focusing on a specific area of your body especially with intention will cause the energy there to move. The twitching and unbearable feeling occurs when there are some energy blocks, like "knots" that need to be loosened so that there is an increase of flow and balance in the body.

If you are interested in developing this aspect of yourself, which i recommend, seeing that you are naturally inclined to it, then look into yoga, qi gong, tai chi, reiki, or anything to do with the energy system.

The other posters speaking of energy are correct, you simply move your energy to the parts you focus on thus creating the sensations you get.

This is quite useful for many purposes, and I would highly recommend you and anyone interested in such things as chi, healing, astral projection, reiki, meditation, and anything relating to the energy of your body to get the book "Energy Work: the Secret of healing and spiritual development" by Robert Bruce:
www.amazon.com...

Truly a masterpiece on the subject and how to properly train and exercise your own energy and make some proper use of it. His other book, Astral Dynamics, is also truly a masterpiece and a must for anyone interested in that subject: www.AstralDynamics.com...

Do you know what, I used to hear about all that chi stuff and think it was a load of old meatballs.

However, I suppose when you look at it from a point that we use electrical impulses to move or contract a muscle there maybe something in it.

A friend of mine could judder his eyeballs at ridiculous speeds from left to right by concentrating.

Interesting you mention the twitch, like spasm.

My oh my! You're making me blush now.

I've never tried to work any self-recovery. Currently I have sore muscles all over thanks to an intense racquetball game yesterday. I think I'll try to do this to one side or the other and see if I notice a difference between the two.

I cannot experience pain after the fact. I've given birth before, and as any woman can tell you, there is a definite block there! Otherwise we'd all be only children.

So last night I decided to try it on different body parts, and I noticed a definite "glow" in the nether regions. Interesting, very interesting. It does have a bit of that orgasm feeling to it. Or it would if I could get it to respond like me feet do. Thank god I'm not a 17 year old boy or I probably wouldn't leave my room until I figured it out.

Interesting about the knots/blocks. I never thought about it that way, that it was in essence trapped in those particular body parts. I'm googling all these terms, thank you!

I just want to thank everyone for replying so kindly and pointing me in the right direction.

Does anyone know if this kind of thing runs in the family? My grandmother swears she can heal with her hands, but she's a Christian and she's convinced it's not a gift from God but from the Devil. She's only ever told a handful of people, and she never practices it. Anyway I'd never heard of Reiki before, and I'm an agnostic at best, so that's what led to my original comment of "I don't think I have 'healing powers'..."

Also hers doesn't "tickle" so I kinda just thought it was in her head (sorry grammy).

This is the grandma on my mom's side. My mom has never mentioned anything like this, but she's sooooooo far from in tune with her body. Plus I seriously doubt she's ever sat still long enough to notice something like that.

I've wondered the same thing for a while. I'm not sure what it is, and am far too much of an engineering mentality to attribute it to chi/energy/etc. As cool as that would be, I would like to see what is going on while under an FMRI of my entire body.

Generally speaking, I can make my scalp and down the back of my spine tingle. I can sometimes cause it to 'flow' through my body. This leads me to believe it is neurological in nature - or, if it is some energy, it is having some kind of effect on my neurology. I have extreme difficulty starting this feeling anywhere other than in the back of my head/neck. About the best I can do with other parts of my body is inducing the "fight-or-flight" sensitivity, mainly in my hands/feet (the same feeling I get when looking down from a height and feeling the need to balance).

I do recall my nearly pathological watching of Discovery and History channel in my youth having some shows on various "strange physical phenomena" - and one of them mentioning an eastern philosophy that had energy (in the form of a dragon) flowing up and down the spine (I believe this was an episode on spontaneous human combustion - and the theory that this energy somehow got out of control... yeah - I'm the guy that never lets you live down anything because I remember everything). I've often wondered if this 'ability' I have inspired that believe.

In either case - I've wondered how common this is, and have always been rather remiss to talk about it in person, and rather skeptical of the online community (anyone can come here and agree for the sake of agreeing and not really get me any closer to answering the question of whether or not it is a trait that all people have, the degree to which I am capable of experiencing this, or what - if anything - is unique about it).

It could also be that many of my friends are anime nerds - and they would instantly take that reference and run with it, and I simply wouldn't hear the end.

Yes I can and I think most people can if not completely dense.

What's the big deal? I can also move my leg by thinking it.

I used to sew for a living and one of the problems with the sewing operation I was doing was joint pain, problems with tendons and also nerve pain and I started experiencing nerve pain because I found it difficult to keep my hands in a relaxed position while trying to work very fast... working fast I could definitely do...and I also have had some mild sciatica pain from heavy lifting in a warehouse. These pains were not as severe as the pain I sometimes get in my spine, that's harder to deal with but if I have mild pains, sometimes if I sit still and concentrate on that area I can make the pain go away. If I try that with the pain in my spine it helps a little but it mostly makes my arms twitch because I start relaxing and feel mild stimulation, but the pain is pretty severe and I can't completely control it that way. There's other things I do for nerve pain as well if it gets more severe but it's not related to this subject.

side note- these are not muscle pains. I used to think the pain in my arms were muscle pain but they are not. massaging helps muscle pains but they hardly ever help the nerve pains I get.
speaking of tickling though, one of the things I do is run my fingers along my skin and it tickles a lot. I do it with the very tip of my fingers or my nails and I guess it signals the nerves and somehow circumvents the pain. If I do this while concentrating and relaxing it seems to help a lot although it tickles like crazy.

I think it is a big deal.

There are plenty of things we don't understand. Mind over matter does indeed make you able to move your leg. Everyone can do that, well mostly.

Being able to control those huge leg muscles in such a refined and controlled way without any registered thought; do you not think it's possible to control other parts of your body that aren't obviously controllable?

Like making your heart beat faster, by thought alone, or even help promote cell regeneration in damaged areas of the body? Yeah, it sounds far fetched, but it may be possible.

The problem is, when people claim they can do something with the power of their mind, what most people would call extraordinary or not the norm, they get dismissed as either attention seekers or not all there in the head as they don't have science to back it up.

Like I've said before, I didn't believe in the concept of chi. whatever word we call it, the fact that people could have control over it may bring new ways of healing or god knows whatever.

We are still learning new things about our most common well known senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. I bet you didn't know your eyes help you taste things. Now the sixth sense, we know little about. The concept of chi falls under this.

Think about the placebo effect. Countless studies have shown the power of belief can show up physical changes in us.

Have an open mind, I never used to and got proved wrong so many times.

Don't blush, just think of me next time you try it out!

I can't begin to imagine the fun to be had with someone having this natural ability, then practicing yoga and meditation to perfect it, and then venturing into tantric sex!! Ok, I can imagine it, and I am doing so right now!

I know. I can at least slow down my heartbeat at will. Naturally thinking damaged areas makes healing faster as it stimulates blood circulation in that area.

Yes I know. Paracelsus was amongst the first europeans that were aware of this fact. I think we may have to thank him for observing the placebo -effect.

Still I don't think that it's a big deal. All this is possible for all people who are willing learn. If you find all this new and exiting, it's allright. For me they were pretty obvious things.

Besides, one has to remember that psychologists have shown that some physical illness are caused by our mind, and hence mind is capable healing these instances. There are however some defects that cannot be healed by mind. If you have you arm cut off, I doubt that you will grow a new one to replace the cut off.

Yes, and some people lie about their abilities. Or they project their ego ideal, that is, they want to appear as someones who can do that stuff. I don't need science nor beliefs.. To me my individual experiences are enough. I do not want to debate and prove my case to other people; it is in their freedom to believe what they will.

Did I sound overly excited? Or did Debbie Downer just wander in here.

Anyway, I stumbled across this site yesterday that has the best description of it. After awhile I realized the author was one that was recommended earlier in this thread. So good job on that recommendation dude.

satori.mysteria.cz...

I asked my only biological child a series of questions yesterday and she indicates she knows what this is and can do it. But you know kids, she could just be trying to say what she thinks I want to hear. She demonstrated and reacted the ways I would expect.

Clearly, she's not "dense". What a relief.
