The need my be easy to state and hard to explain. My family have been outdoorsman for 10 generations in this country. Its in our history. To teach each of our children was a natural way of life. All my kids were taught and raised to respect guns. Noone will be able to take them away. In fact we have moved to a right to carry state.
As of now my daughters and sons have permits to carry also. A thief in this state thinks twice before they try to rob you or take your car. The armed public is a means to rise up if or when needed to protect this country from invaders or our own goverment. It'll be a cold day in hell if they try to take my guns away!!

All I can say to you sir, is you obviously haven't been robbed at gunpoint.

I don't think he has.
Neither has ANYONE I know, in the UK.
Why?
Because gun's aren't that readily available in the UK!

But guess what, my brother was when he lived in Dallas.
His best man was when he lived in Atlanta.
And 2 groups of friends have been whilst holidaying in Florida!

You also don't have the CIA dropping off hard drugs, guns and ammo in the hood. Knife crime is still kicking in the UK and shooting deaths do occur regularly. For what its worth I have met only ONE person that has been held up at gunpoint and that was because he was trying to buy coke in a...guess what..HOOD.

Wayno, I have fought in wars you don't even read about. I have been in places you have never even heard of. I have seen the atrocities committed by governments, on their own people, all in the name of God knows what... Your operative word is "YET". Personally I CHOOSE to live in the State which I reside, In the Country I love so dearly, yet know it's violent history and ability, at the stroke of a pen, to change all that we hold dear. My logic is spot on... as history will prove... My life and the security of my family rests solely in my own hands.

That's all true. It's not better anywhere else. I'd take all this crap and have a little freedom over say Singapore where virtually none of that crap exists but I dont have much freedom at all.

Ideally I'd have my own little nation and be left the hell alone by everybody to farm, get old/sick and die. But that'll never happen. Every corner of the globe has some asshole on it who wants to control me and you and anyone within arms reach just for the sake of control.

LoL that statement makes no sence. You say looks at the rest of the world, and that just makes me want to own even more guns. Im looking and all I see is death and destruction caused.... Not by guns... But people and the majority of them dont have guns like you stated. I say we arm every opressed person on this planet and see what happens. I forse a few years of chaos but after all the tyrants have been taken care of it would revert to peace.

I like to think humans are not naturally agressive like this, maby im giving the species to much credit here... But I believe that 10% of the human population is causing 90% of the problems and gun's are the only thing keeping the wolfs at bay here in the states.

I shutter to think what it would be like here right now without guns. Between the mexican mafia, the gangs, and our own government, there are plenty of reasons to stay armed and aware right now.

I don't even know where to start.

If you remove guns from citizens then who keeps the gov in check. Never happen. That is why the government is so afraid of home grown terror as they are creating it by forcing people out of their homes by emminant domain. Unreasonalable taxes and the such.

Lets see.
Get paid for working 40 hours a week.

That is taxed at 36+ percent by the fed, then the state, then social security then medicare then sorry i cannot find a pay stub but I know there is more.

Then lets see my car.
Excise tax, gas tax, inspection sticker tax. Tolls which were put up to pay for road maintenance. Oh wait that is what excise tax was for to m,aintain the roads. What ever...

House. Let me get my tax bill for this one youll #e yourself.

Tax rate per 1000
Municipal 6.06
Local school. 9.87
state ed 2.48 wtf isnt that school.
County 1.12
Total 19.53 per 1000 usd

Assesed value
Build 207,400
Land 132,100
Useage 0
Exemptions 0
Show me the money here it comes.

Municipal tax $2,057.00
Local School tax $3,351.00
state ed $842.00
County $380.00

Total tax $6,630.00 year 2010
12% if paid after 12/10/2010

Lets go on.

Food tax on groceries.
meal tax if you eat out.
Electricity bill with tax and uage fee and other charges.
Cell phone I will not even go there as there are so many charges it is sick. Oh ya why does it cost more for a text message. As it is a burst transmissing versus a open line to talk across. Stupid people pay for it though and we love it.
cable tv taxes
Im on a well so they cannot tax my use as of yet but they are trying to pass legislation to monitor well usage. FU just provide town water then you can tax me on that oh wait that will cost them money to install pies and sewage. Nope we will push to regulate your well so we can tax tyou on the free water I pay the electricy for to pump from the ground.

Internet tax for my line to many to list.

I cannot go on I am getting annoyed just adding these things up.

So lets say you make 6000 and month.
Pay all your bills and how much you think is left to fund your childrens college saving fund and your retirement funds. Thats right your not getting social security becasue the already stole that money and now they are talking about stealing my 401k that I have been putting money into since I was 15 years old until now and Im 39.

Now if I cannot afford health insurance the gov wants to fine me for more money.

This is what makes people crazy.

Most people charge their lifes away and live paycheck to paycheck and carry huge debt. Me i do not.

I can see why some of these people snap on day and go postal. this is why the government is in fear of the people. Why because we are armed. The goal of these socialist leader is to take all our wealth and redistribute it and make us all sheeple.

Shut up and drink your coolaid. Now get back to work.

It is the duty of the citizen to rise up if the country is taken over by an oppressive regime.
There are so many laws is the US regulating firearms. But the criminals can still find guns they will steal them from the police and the military. Fact.

It is my right as an American. You might as well ask why I need the right vote or speak my mind.

Rights in the Constitution are not based on needs, they are based on the inherent rights of its citizens, including the right to self defense and the defense of others.

If they were based on need, we'd have no rights, because needs tend to be defined by others and we've had too many would-be tin dictators elected to office, who would enslave us in a heartbeat without the Constitution and the 2nd amendment.

Remember Hitler? He was a big gun-ban supporter too, when applied to those he wished to oppress and not his pets like the good little nazis.

Observation: funny how those states and cities here with the most restrictive gun laws generally tend to be those with the highest violent crime rates.

Wow. 30 pages of replies. I wish I had the time this morning to read all of them.

Kevin, the simple answer to your question as to why we need guns is: because evil exists.

Allow me to elaborate a bit. There are good people out there in the world and there are evil people. If all people were good, then you would have a point. If this was also the case, then there would be no violence, drug usage, murders, etc. This utopia, obviously, doesn't exist. The evil ones are in all walks of life, including your neighborhood, your work and even your government. Personally, I do believe that there are more good people than evil ones, but that is besides the point.

Throughout history, the truly evil people who have attained a high ranking in governmental positions (like president) tend to follow the same pattern of gaining control over any particular nation. They disarm the populace while at the same time, arming themselves and their loyalists or army. This act was practiced by Hitler, Mussolini, Castro, Pol Pot, Carl Marx, etc., etc.

The American revolution actually started because the king of England decided to try to disarm the colonists in order to subdue them. This is the basis of and reason for our second amendment. An armed populace can not be subdued. And, with the founders also believing that a majority of people are good, that criminals, being a minority, would, in turn, be mostly subdued. For more than 200 years, this has worked out pretty well.

As long as evil exists, there will be evil acts. As long as there is no perfect person or people, there will be no law that can be perfect.

I was going to write a long winded response to your original post. Then I realized that you have done absolutely no research on the subject.

Why don't you start with a couple of links.

Gun Facts

Gun Cite

Armed Citizen

Plus you can go to the CDC's website and find out how many people die from different things. You are actually more likely to die because of a medical mistake than a gun. We don't ban doctors. You are more likely to be killed in a car wreck than to be killed with a gun. You are more likely to be injured as a pedestrian than accidentally shot. There are a lot of things more dangerous than guns.

A gun is no more dangerous than a car with the keys in the ignition. There is potential there. However, until a human acts on that potential nothing can happen. If you are afraid of an inanimate object there is something off with your way of thinking.

I have no fear of objects. I am far more concerned by the people in control of those objects. I choose to excercise my right to protect myself from their malignent intent if I must.

True Massachuettes has the most toughest gun law within the united state of america. Both the crimes commitied by criminals who illegally enter and illegally obtain these guns are killing people every single day. Pull up the boston glode and google shooting and you will see a ton.

Now look at NY it is illegal to bring a gun into that state and look at the crime there . take the guns away and the criminals have guns. fact.

Look at texas.

People are armed to the T and the crime there is so low because everyone is armed and they know it. try to rob an armed and pissed of texan and bang your dead. And you will not get sued like here in MA.

If you shoot someone trying to rob you with a knife Martha ciookley will go after you for trying to defend yourself and say your a vigilanty. It happened and is fact. period. then they sue you throw you and jail and take your house.

When I went to gun safety they told me the laws required that you lock yourself in a secue area of the home and let them rob you. you cannot fire at someone unless your life is threaten. WHich you have to prove. Remeber your the crimal at this point.

Now if someone is breaking into your home and you are home and they know your home and they are still breaking in then they must be coming in to kill you and rape who ever is in there.

That is why I moved to NH.

Live free or Die.

If I were to go out in my back yard and someone was there illegally I could draw my firearm and fire. I remeber a couple of years back some young punk were trying to get into this old mans house to steal his money. he shot them and the others took him to court and said the ywere only there to rob him and were not going to hurt him. They sued the guy and won.

That will never happen in this state.

Live Free or Die.

This we will defend.

Funny thing Ive noticed about this state is that when an attack or robbery does happen it's 99% of the time with a knife or some weird tool like a crowbar or saw.

For a state thats up to its eyeballs in guns ether the criminals arent getting them or they just arent using them.

Dont know why NH criminals cant seem to get them when every criminal in Mass apparently has one.

I don't want to sound like I'm nagging about how you British debate about OUR Constitution....BUT.....I must remind you that the last time the British complained about OUR Constitution, George Washington sent your troops home badly bloodied and with their tails tucked between their legs.

Little later, Andy Jackson whipped your pasty white behinds at New Orleans.

Say, what did you British do with all those guns FDR sent you back when the Nazis were threatening to invade your island?

And if you British are having trouble finding guns, buy one from the Irish.
