What does a holier than thou attitude have to do with anything?
People don't choose to be addicts? I don't remember anyone holding me face down on the floor with their knee in my spine, twisting my arm up behind
my back demanding that I begin smoking cigarettes. The only factor that I can remember in any of my addictions was my own series of poor choices and
lack of self control.
In case I wasn't as clear as what your mental faculties would demand, let me remind you that the point of my post was that nonsmokers have just as
much of a right to breathe tobacco-free air as you do to pollute the air, and that smoking in public places causes us to suffer because of YOUR
"Well, you chose to have kids and load landfills with diapers. Three more fingers pointing back at you. "
I take this to mean that you haven't polluted the gene pool of humanity yet. Nice. Thumbs up. That addition of the first-grade playground argument
regarding the pointing fingers was a really nice touch.
"More pointing at you because YOU were an addict and likely endangered others."
Exactly. When I didn't take other people into consideration, and served my own selfish interests, I made poor choices. My addictions endangered the
health of others, as well as my own. I see absolutely no shame in the recognition of this, since it was in the past and I have mended my ways.
"You really do come off as a judgemental jerk. I do smoke cigs - but - I have NEVER been addicted nor rarely used anything else (such as alcohol). So
- that makes me holier THAN THOU. And - I smoke outdoors only, away from others, and am only an occasional smoker."
I honestly don't care if you smoke at all. Why should I care? I merely pointed out the fact that tobacco addiction is a problem (aside from others)
that I had the strength to overcome. I also think that the tone of your retaliation is more of a justification to yourself to bolster the addiction
that you claim you don't have.
*You also failed to consider that alot of these lower income apartment complexes house single mothers who are likely stressed out and are themselves
smokers. Or perhaps their boyfriends are, or their teen kids.*
I would be greatly more stressed out than usual if I knew that the only source of relief came to me at six dollars a pack, stunk up my house, my
clothes, my breath, and endangered the life of not only myself but all of those around me. If you can get your crayons out, and one of the lined
sheets of paper - do some math and see just how much money a pack of day for a year comes out to.
*Before you blame others, Including Joe Random Smoker, stop and think about it for awhile.*
Stop and think about what? That other peoples addictions are harmful to my health? To my family's health? I'll not apologize for being proactive
when it comes to their well being. If what I said doesn't apply to you, it doesn't apply. Get over it and quit whining.
*I will bet that when you were an addict - you'd have wished people would've cut you a bit slack. And they likely didn't which just made you madder
and more addicted. Am I right?*
Actually I DID wish they would STFU and leave me alone. My family pretty much did. There was one friend of mine that absolutely wouldn't. She is
the one that I owe my success to. She wouldn't sit idly by while I slowly killed myself. People who do nothing while watching you poison
yourself....are they really doing you any favors?
The more I pushed against her - the more she pushed back. SHE is the one who did me the biggest favor.
*You sound like a "dry drunk" also. You really do. *
I sound like a person defending his right to breathe air free from the smoke of the things that you like to suck on.
