Dear vethumanbeing: Well, Yes, the idea of a third or an independent President is not new, and it has important historic precedents, when politicians were able to see above partisan divisions and think in great for the good of the nation.
Now, it seems we are arriving to a privileged moment in American politics, many want to see it as dramatically critical, but maybe that is just resistance to change, it is also interesting to remark that every crisis usually is the door of important changes, the closing of one era to begin a new one.
The angel of light; There is no doubt that the center in politics has lived since long time ago, there were also historic dissidences from one party to the other, like:
- when the progressive Party split from the republicans and then about 20 years later merged into the Democratic Party, a third party that while was in existence was leaded by Theodore Roosevelt.
- The conservative Democratics split from their original party in 196hTe record of to be the only President never elected.
The angel of lightness: Now, there are rumors that possibly Donald Trump may consider a democratic runner mate, something that will be Historic, if it happens, but for now we can remain optimistic that his rivals are deciding to launch a third candidate that will give air to the Election. Thanks for your interesting reply, The Angel of Lightness
Senator Bernie Sanders:
“It is unbelievable to me, and I say this in all sincerity, that the Republican Party would have a candidate for president who in the year 2016 makes bigotry and discrimination the cornerstone of his campaign. In my view, the American people will not vote for or tolerate a candidate who insults Mexicans and Latinos, who insults Muslims, who insults African-Americans and women,” ... “I will of course, be competing in the D.C. primary, which will be held next Tuesday,”
Paul Ryan: It’s a question of how to move ahead on the ideas that I—and my House colleagues—have invested so much in through the years. It’s not just a choice of two people, but of two visions for America,” Ryan wrote, citing the “bold” policy agenda that he will begin rolling out next week and contrasting that with Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton’s platform. “Donald Trump can help us make it a reality,” Ryan said.
Newt Gingrich: "First of all, if I were Bernie and I think this is what he's doing, why should he drop out before the FBI drops out?" Gingrich said. "As long as the FBI is in the game he might as well stay around at least until convention."
Mitt Romney, June 10th 2016, "I don't want to see trickle-down racism," .. "I don't want to see a president of the United States saying things which change the character of the generations of Americans that are following. Presidents have an impact on the nature of our nation, and trickle-down racism, trickle-down bigotry, trickle-down misogyny, all these things are extraordinarily dangerous to the heart and character of America."
Mitt Romney: There’s NOTHING Trump can do that would make me ENDORSE him!
