Almost 100 Filipinos staged an anti-USA protest in front of the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong, demanding the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Phillippines. The U.S. military has been playing an active role in the fight against terrorism by training the Phillippine military to combat Muslim Extremists.

The protest was timed to coincide with not only the Fourth of July, but also Filipino-American Friendship Day.

About 100 people chanted anti-American slogans outside the consulate and staged a skit depicting President Bush holding Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on a dog leash, said Eman Villanueva, who helped organize the event.

Police estimated the crowd at about 60.

Villanueva said the United States used terrorism as an excuse to send troops into the Philippines to protect its Asian interests, and that the Filipino government felt beholden to comply because it is dependent on U.S. loans.

It is my opinion that this particular Anti-USA sentiment is in the minority in the country of the Phillippines. As with all countries who have been colonies or occupied terroritories of the U.S., anti-US sentiments also seems to flourish, just as the radical muslim ideology grows regardless of the benefits shown. The Phillippines were under U.S. control starting in 1898 and gained their independence on July 4, 1946.
