People forget this is the same paranoid individual who thought the video game, Mercenaries 2, was propaganda made by the US government to support an invasion of Venezuela. All that came out of it was a sub-par sandbox title.

Cynically, we could all just say this was a "photo opportunity." A symbolic gesture as there are MORE than 25 people who need housing.

>> But IMPRESSION becomes reality in a way -- When Jimmy Carter put up Solar Cells and Reagan took them down, it mattered. It reflected their efforts to get the US off of -- and then more dependent on, fossil fuels.

I have to give credit to a leader who sets this sort of example -- because in THIS COUNTRY, I don't see any people with real power setting such an example.

>> Where is the business that is hiring a few thousand people -- just to get them working? Corporate profits are at record levels -- but the "charity" doled out is bubble gum money.

We almost eliminated homelessness in this country -- and now we don't even make sure everyone AT LEAST has a tent. There shouldn't be one church with stain glass, or one courthouse with marble floors until we do at least that. We've got disgusting displays of ego and self-worth, but not enough of self-sacrifice.

It would make sense if he wasnt going to sleep in a tent outside.

I'd like to question why would he not stay with them inside? Because that implies to me that he cannot be seen sharing the same quarters as the poor. But I have to agree with others publicity stunt at it's finest. If these leaders really cared about the people they would give them freedoms beyond imagination, and rid themselves of hostile acts of any kind. Until that happens well I wont hold my breath.........

>> I'd think that the BIGGEST reason would be SECURITY. -- he's already had 3 attempts on his life from the US.

Empty gestures are not as good as solving the problem -- but we don't even have empty gestures or an acknowledgement of what is REALLY wrong. We've got the same people who sent the jobs overseas allowed to get on TV and lecture everyone on how to grow our economy. Or else they just say; "this is the best we can do under the situation."

>> Oh really? We are seeing countries with less of an infrastructure and less of a pool of talent surpassing us. And all we get is a shrug and partisan bickering over letting Gays in the military -- this from a Military that does maneuvers with countries that have already ended that bit of stupidity.

Everywhere on TV and our Media is nothing but people saying "nothing can be solved" and lowering out expectations. In the 1960's, nobody had every gone to the moon -- and we said we would do it and we then spent the money, planned the project, and did it.

WE built the infrastructure for the Internet -- with the Government. Today the logic is so twisted that "government can't make jobs" that we would just shrug and say; "nobody can build an internet." The entire infrastructure for all business to occur is the rules enforced by our government -- and we can't just change the rules to make it cost more money to import goods or get the wealthy to pay more?

Lol, Chavez is a very simple man, you are with him or you are against him, if you are against him them you are part of some evil fascist extreme right wing movement who want to kill him because he is so good that "we" can't let him live.

Of course, a lot of people outside the country like him, anyways, is easy, the ones who must stand all his bs is us, not them.

Btw, after that game he make a new law banning violent videogames, let me be clear, banning violent videogames from the country, without age limit, adults CAN'T play that kind of games now.

And the new law that will put restrictions in the internet is because "people who belongs to the evil fascist extreme right wing" use twitter and other social networks to create social chaos and call for his death, of course, it won't be that short, they will have power to shutdown pages in national servers who go against "national security", and with a paranoid as president, i suppose that saying that his mole is ugly will be reason enough, "media manipulation" is reason to sanction, to the information of the people, everything in tv against Chavez is media manipulation, it doesnt matter if is a talk about him dressing bad or he doesn't do what he promises, in fact, even anonimity is being prohibited in that new law.

So, yeah, freedom paladin this guy.

A link in english, is from a national newspare, of course, remember, is not a newspaper who support chavez, so this is pretty much "media manipulation".

I first have to say that I apologize if at first I called BS on Chavez banning violent video games but you had me rolling
when I found this article.

Forgive my laughter because it comes from disbelief that someone would actually go through with something like that! But seriously:

Venezuelan lawmakers in October passed a law outlawing the sale of "bellicose" videogames that can be punished with up to five years' imprisonment.

So many mixed emotions, you can't make this stuff up!

The floods and rains are very recent, to be fair is hard to build house that quickly here, is quick to make a house with wood, but here we don't use wood as a building material.

The real question here is why his gov didn't had any kind of plan in case of disaster and of course, how many houses had been build in the last 12 years.

There are so many problems with house building in the country, why?, well, pretty much he says "this year im going to make XXXXXXX houses", because the gov is full of corruption and idiots, they don't make the XXXXXXX houses, of course, he can't admit the gov is a disaster, so he blame the CIA, the evil right wing, the empire, bush, so he make a new brilliant decision, that means that he now must nationalize the companies who make houses, cement, concret, bricks, bars, remember, they are evil and they didn't make what he wanted, so his people take those companies, and now those companies are going to work because they belong to the people and are socialist, so he promise again to make the XXXXXXX houses, and of course, they don't make them, and who's the fault? yes, that right, again, the CIA, evil right wing, empire, bush, etc etc

And we are pretty much in a loop, well, not me, but a lot of people is, Chavez is a very charismatic guy, i know it, i had been very near him, 1 meter or less, so the people who believe in him really believe in him, is kind of a religion, he says, the other follow, it doesn't matter if he is making bad choices, the gov doesn't work, he is not the one with the fault, is the CIA, evil right wing, empire, bush and who know what else.

Is sick and sad, but the guy is a master in propaganda and in a country with a lot of uneducated people, gullibility is excesive, democracy can be beautiful with educated people, but in countries like mine is no more that mob rule.

totally real, the real funny thing is because of the bad economic situation, original games are very very expensive, so there is a huge pirate market in the country and is almost impossible to enforce this kind of law, but the congressmen are idiots who like idiots laws.

I can respect that, let's see if they have what it takes... no matter what situation going on around the globe I always seem to be for the people. Did the neighboring communities that were not damaged take matters into their own hands and not wait for the gov to build disaster camps ? the neighboring communities should all put in a standard percentage to rebuild (specially the wealthy)

I am sure there are dozens of American christian/catholic missionaries working with these on-going storms and the people of Venezuela.

Almost every single Christian church up here seems to be building establishment somewhere in South America, alot of our public school teachers are these missionaries I might add.

I don't consider this Evil.

I dunno, always claiming that you don't see americans doing things like this is probably more related to what the news wants you to see -- which is, they don't want you to see people being kind to one another, particularly if they have money and are being philanthropic. THIS is because the agenda is to convince people who don't have money to be jealous of those who do. It's subversion protocol 101 how to take over the hearts and minds of the people, so they become a home bred army willing to kill each other, especially rich people. ET.AL, our media is pretty much sold out to the communists. lol

Oh no! He censored the very things that turn humans into robots even more!

PS. Facebook is a glorified dating site, apparently if you aren´t using it to get laid you´re doing it wrong.

Also, the amount of datamining that is done is ridiculous alongside the fact that both facebook and twitter are getting censored in the US, point in question: Wikileaks. (Never mind the creator of facebook calling those that trusth their personal information(even private messages) to him are ...what was it again?)

I guess your shell of an argument did not work. Try again.

It is disgusting how you are trying to justify censorship, you are the true definition of a sheeple.

Censorship is wrong, and it does not matter if it is done by the US or somebody else. It is a sure sign of a corrupt society.

It's okay you don't understand it when the big boys talk but really? A sheeple?

How many things in your life have you seen that were not censored?

Censorship is wrong, and it does not matter if it is done by the US or somebody else. It is a sure sign of a corrupt society.

Of course. But what are YOU going to do about it? Corrupt society? You don't say! Can you point to one nation that is not corrupt then? Because of censorship? Or would you let your kids watch any horror/porn flick at age 2? How about your own parents? Did they censor things until you were 'ready'? And does that mean they were corrupted?...

When you censor stuff like Wikileaks it screams something.

When you censor stuff like Facebook, you deserve an award. I bet that if Venezuela would set up their own form of Facebook and Twitter they would not be censored...maybe an idea for you to chew on.

Bàààh

Yes, a sheeple, you are one. Wikileaks is not censored in my country, and I am not aware of any other censorship either.

LOL you really are a sheep.. so now we should let the big brother of a government choose what is good for us, like a parent chooses for his child? I guess the gov can also ground you when you come home late..

When you censor stuff like Wikileaks it screams something.

Is wikileaks censored in the US? And I agree, it screams something.

Sheeple does not even describe how gullible you are. If Venezuela wants to set up their own social networking site, I am all for it. Its just when it starts to censor other sites that it begins to stink. Deny ignorance!

Wikileaks is censored in EVERY country. And if you can't understand that then you needn't discuss things with me.

LOL you really are a sheep.. so now we should let the big brother of a government choose what is good for us, like a parent chooses for his child? I guess the gov can also ground you when you come home late..

Erm, that's not what I said but thanks for taking it out of context. The point I was trying to make was that there is censorship in everything. Does that make everything corrupt? Perhaps...but leave it to you to look for enemies instead of points.

Besides, governments are the "bigger parents". That's the whole point. Or are you telling me you don't pay any taxes where you're from...and does that make you any less sheeple than I am?

Is wikileaks censored in the US? And I agree, it screams something.

It's censored everywhere.

Sheeple does not even describe how gullible you are. If Venezuela wants to set up their own social networking site, I am all for it. Its just when it starts to censor other sites that it begins to stink. Deny ignorance!

Erm. Do you understand what reality is? Look at what the US has done to Venezuela and what kind of tactics were used. Until you can read history and understand the implications history has on today you cannot tell me I'm a sheeple or that it is I who needs to deny ignorance.

And again, I don't think you understand what Facebook is or twitter, as both have been censored by all sorts of countries.

Sheeple...so funny

This is a political stunt, and he is no different than any other politician. Nothing is ever done without strings attached or something in return. That is how the world is, and this guy lives in that world. Put a few people who are down on their luck in his dacha for a few weeks and every swoons to their benevolent leader? It works every time. The guy is concerned with one thing, and that is absolute power. While swarming commending this man, perhaps they should take a look at this article.

Chavez Plan to Legislate by Decree Sparks Criticism in Venezuela

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s plan to legislate by decree through the special powers he is requesting from the outgoing National Assembly, totally controlled by his party, was described Saturday as demagogic and opportunistic by members of the opposition and analysts.

Legislate by decree? Let me think for a moment, another man went that road. Oh yeah, the unsuspecting painter with a gift for gab from Austria. Chavez thinks he is smart, but anyone with any knowledge of history will know exactly what he is up too. He is taking baby steps tweaking this and that in the law, and before long he will be the unchallenged with his hand the levers of power and influence. Let not jump for joy at this man's alleged compassion for his fellow man. It is a ruse, and another for support for undying support from the people as he continues to consolidate power. If I had to settle for what Chavez is trying to sell to the people of his country, I would rather sleep in a tent or on the ground. Just my two cents on this story.

These politicians will try anything if they are allowed too. I find it serious that the President of Venezuela would even consider kicking around the idea of ruling by decree. If that does not alarm you then I don't know what does? You understand that if he gets what he wants there will be no checks and balances, and no legislature to vent his proposals before coming law. In that environment, who knows what crazy ideas that guy will conjure up? Therefore, he would be governing on his very whim, and with no opposition. That could get messy.

So, you can laugh all you want at the article I referenced, and play it off like it is nothing. The very concept of one man ruling and making all decisions on his own is very serious. Furthermore, it leads to tyranny. So, he opens his palace to some down and out families? I guess he is just doing it because he is a nice guy, right? Some may see it that way, but I, however, see something entirely different. I see a man making power plays all over the place, and cultivating that cult of personality as other leaders have done in the past. Just my two cents.

It´s okay, you don´t understand that you´re automatically taking the position of anti-Chavez by repeating what tools of the US government say and spread around both outside and inside Venezuela. You live in America correct? Do you understand your laws? Ever get taught any of them in school? No? What a surprise. I guess you are the one being lied to and the people in Venezuela who you paint as worse off actually know more about their rights and duties than you do!

In retrospect, you're the one more likely to get screwed over by your government, regardless of how many shills say they share the power...you know it isn't so.

Go on. Pull more Godwins and I'll unleash Pandoras Godwin box by taking a closer look at the USA and Europe and laws from Nazi Germany.
