The character of a man is defined by what he stands for, not by what he rises in opposition to...I forget who said that, but it strikes me that this protest isn't in support of an ideal, but in opposition to the reduction of the flow of milk from the state's teet. Puppies often get rambunctious when mommy no longer allows them to suckle. Lastly, unless your school yard bully analogy occurs at a private school, then the entire scenario loses credibility.

Certainly the government could cut somewhere else...not bombs though...because those who make and invent new bombs are very educated people and we need to keep them employed. Thus useful nature of state sponsored education. I would suggest that the payouts on the dole be dramatically cut as an alternative. If education is so revered, then let's not give incentive to those who did not take advantage and fully exploit the free "right" to an education. Here here

I'm amazed at how many socialist / anarchists we have here on ATS.
How can you support this insanity?
Hell, its cheaper for us in the US to send our kid to oxford than to some of our schools! SMU for instance?
You guys are blind to the real issue here. The kids are being used.
They should arrest ANYONE of school age out of classes and have guards posted at doors.
The ACTUAL perpetrators behind this should be publicly drawn and quartered.
Folks, this is what socialism breeds. When you run out of money (AND YOU WILL) and you begin to "take the cookies away" the "children" throw a tantrum.
Tantrums deserve a good spanking.
Hmmm, wondering what cookies your are talking about. Education is a right
not a privilege. I'm sure there are plenty of other places they can streamline
the budget instead of raising tuitions and taxing subjects until death. That said,
yes children should be protected from political animosities that would cause
them to riot for UNFOUNDED reasons however protesting is also a right and not
a privilge. In this case they probably learned more about social economics on the
streets in a way they could never learn it in a classroom.

A) it's advanced degrees that got us into the trouble we're in now.
B) if everyone, or nearly everyone had advanced degrees...who would fix your car? Who would stock the shelves at your market with food? How much would the price of everything skyrocket because all of those advanced degree people believe they are entitled to six figure salaries?
In a utopian society...you may be correct...socialism can work...but don't be the first country to reach it...because you will be overrun, underpriced, and out populated...oh that's already happening to you and you're not even there yet

Education is a right. Fine and good. The government put a cap on the prices.
As I said, my daughter could go to oxford cheaper than an instate university like SMU.
Like all socialized nations, when the "big titty" is taken away, people bitch and moan. No sympathy given here.
The only thing I could suggest is to start sending all the lovely immigrants and illegals that are sponging off of the tax payers. All the muzzies that are running madrasas in england? ship'em home feet first or head first but ship'em. That would open up a lot of money. Hell, the brits just axed 300k jobs! Wish we would over here in the states!
This is why the BNP should be in power.
The brits are following suit as in Germany. IF you dont have the funds, dont spend it. If your spending too much, stop!
Kinda like Dave Ramsey's philosophy!
these kids are being used as pawns. period. No grandeur or fine speechs can cover the fact that they are a bunch of idiots with delusions of "beating the system". The PTB are using them according to plan.
