Wow, thank you for the information...hard to believe she gets 12 million+ a year just for being a sitting figurehead. I can see how that might incite some ire. In my oppinion a very undeserved sum, but then Im not a Brit, guess they think it is appropriate.

I am a person of order and do not believe I would like to see more civil unrest, that is for sure, but it is performed by these students on a far smaller scale than the crown did/does on other nations and institutions throughout history.

The British people are a proud people from my experience, it is a pity they allow the pseudo worship of these arrogant clowns in my opinion. That 12 million and all their royal holdings could do much more good serving the public then upholding this outdated malarchy(monarchy). The vatican could also take a lesson as to their true value here as well.

Charles, I'm really disappointed in you. After giving that eloquent Hologram Delivered speech on conserving energy, and saving the environment, how could you still possess gas and oil using vehicles? Oh, and don't tell me you don't have enough money, Charles, you practically own the whole world, and that lovely Historic Central Bank is right in your backyard.

Good for the thieves!

People from over seas, please show a little respect here. I understand the students views, they are right about what they are fighting for. The violence was sparked off by a bunch of idiots, the students were quite happy with a peaceful protest.

I lost a lot of respect for the Prince when he married Camilla, I always thought Diana was one of the most wonderful human beings out there.

But like it or lump it, Charles will be King one day. As a Brit, I welcome it, just not with open arms. I think it should be handed straight over to William.

When I ask a little respect to be shown, it's because the Monarchy is a symbol of Britain, regardless of what little roles it plays these days. I am a proud Brit, who is proud to have a Royal family at the head of the Kingdom, you may not understand that, you may disagree with that, but that is how I and many other Brits feel, please, at least respect that.

On another side note, I actually wonder sometimes how much influence HRH has, when she gave that speech at the UN, the people there seemed to pay attention (as opposed to what happens in parliament, when you can the play the old game, spot the snoozer, lol). When she meets important figureheads from round the world, they bow, and yeah, it might just be courtesy, but there always seems to be more to it, and I know from reading other peoples comments on the matter in other threads where it is brought up that I'm not the only one that has noticed that, weird.

You can see the fear & shock on that poor woman's face, that's such a shame, she didn't deserve that.

OP, I'm disgusted with your tawdry little thread.

Yes you can see the fear, I don't care for Obama but I would be horrified if he and Michelle were terrorized like this.

I understand people want to change the world, but if you resort to violence then you are no better.

The queen has not had a pay rise in 20 years and newspaper reports suggest her courtiers are lobbying the new government to raise her allowance for performing public duties.

uk.reuters.com...

She may not have had a pay rise (from us the people) recently but she has a ton of personal investements that any ordinary person could live off for a life time. The queen's personal wealth is seldom discussed (and politicians keep to this rule through 'respect', I personally would call it arselicking) but it includes vast shares in food and mineral companies and priceless artworks such as Leonardo Divinci odds and ends. This is all tax free and un-touched of course. Charles is a multimillionaire from his Duchy of Cornwall business yet he still takes taxpayers money, the ultimate benefit scroungers and an enormous amount more than any student would take!

If Charles and Camilla choose to be part of this family and don't use their position to actually do some good for everyone, then they should understand that some degree of frustration will be pointed at them. I don't believe in violence as a mean of protest but it seems someone somewhere has held the pendulum to one side for a long time ....and now they've released it and it's crashing down again . It's a tactic of 'divide and conquer', see how far you can push the poor and they will start to attack the rich, the balance is definitley changing but to who's advantage?

As an American I respect the UK and their system of government. I admire the fact that they are led by someone outside of politics who represents the nation, and not a particular political party as is the case here in the US where the head of state and the head of government are one and the same. If I had my way the US would be a Commonwealth Realm ... I would much rather see William on the throne rather than Charles but that's my personal preference. Around 75% of British residents prefer to have a constitutional monarchy over a republic and that's their prerogative. I believe the figures in the Commonwealth Realms are in a similar range in regards to a monarchy over a republic. I do know that polls indicate only about 40% of Australians support a republic - support for an Australian republic has declined significantly over the last decade following the defeated 1999 referendum on becoming a republic. Only 48% voted for a republic ... well short of the 2/3 (66%) that was required to abolish the monarchy.

Also, for what it's worth the British Royal Family do pay taxes and actually bring in more money than they cost.

You can wave to prince charles with a smile while I throw bricks at him and fight for my freedom lol.

Cheers for the explanation Otomad
But I still fail to see how Prince Charles impacts your freedom in any way. He doesn't impact on mine.

Similarly, there's a lot more sinister agents with wider and deeper impacts in this country right now. Why the venom and violence directed at the fairly innocuous Royal family?

Seems to me that the Socialist Worker is stirring up emotions to cause mayhem, simply because we have a Conservative government in play. They did the same the last time. We're reaping the rewards from years of poor Labour leadership and yet there was hardly a peep from the SW at the time. Interesting.

That [SNIP] charles has been pushing for offshore wind farms etc for years yet neglecting to tell us that these parasites "own" the seabed around the UK and probably the commonwealth thus any mineral and other wealth generated from it making these self serving twats richer.. All the time people like me are slugging our guts out day after day to get rid of a deficit we did not make whilst our so called monarchy rapes OUR shores and land to keep them in hats...

They have the land portfolio that would stop many from having to lose their jobs, health care, homes and so on and bring us back in the black.

But do they?

No!

They continue to feather their nests via the blood of the British people and their cronies love the riches it gives them.

[SNIP] them!

Clearly you feel strongly about this and in any other circumstances I would like to discuss this more with you. However, rightly or wrongly, for me the impact of your message was lost with your use of profanity. It gives me the impression that there would be no respectful or courteous debate. I may of course be wrong, but that's the impression your post gives me.

Happy to be proved wrong

crazy stuff

these kids should should think themselves lucky they are in the UK

in plenty of country's they would have been shot

Peacefull demonstration = grand, knock yourself out, I've done it myself

Rioting = should be open season on them, they get what they deserve, if you are a peacefull protester and people start rioting anywhere near the protest, you should leave, go home, if not, your part of it, and you will get treated as a rioter.

And what the hell is peoples problem with Churchill? why do they always attack his statue? are they truly that thick?
