I have two questions about the Prince Charles video:
1. Why was Prince Charles driving around town during a riot?

They were on the way to the theatre for the Royal Variety Performance

2. In the video I noticed only 2 police officers, and they didn't show up until near the end of the video, so why was the 1st person in line to the throne of England so unprotected?

Royal protection officers were guarding the car, you don't see them all in the video, and the protest was all over the place, constantly changing direction.

I dont agree with Violence, but history has shown that it works. The Poll tax was repealed after the riots in 1990. The bill had been passed like yesterday. The Poll tax footage makes yesterdays protest look like a Tea Party.

So, in short, French rioting over scaled back retirement, and British rioting over student loans, are indictments on the failure of US citizens to be rioting. Got it.

Also, violence is an acceptable means, as long as it suits your ends.

Gotta' love ATS.

I know, it's the same here.

It was a crap attempt at humour; we Brits will always try to inject some humour even if poor or inapropriate.

Sssshhh! Don't tell them that! Were all fat and stupid here. Were far too busy to think critically, like the rest of the world, when Survivor is on and Big Mac's are only a couple bucks. All 300+ million of us.

Don't think anyone has actually said or even implied that, if you can provide evidence then I'd gladly apologise or attempt to clarify.

Your link is voided, half of means a lot of people are 7 - 14lbs overweight, something to do with BMI, if its slightly over they call you obese, its stupid.

Oh and it's £3.99 or something for a Big Mac meal over here (can make it a large for only 30p extra, lol), thats about $7 i think, damn American corporation trying to rip us off with over priced re-processed dog organs!
(joke)

That poll tax riot vid further up stunned me, I totally forgot thats what it was like!

Shock.
Someone dares 'tell' Americans something.
Guess what, the world doesn't turn on what the USA says or does, your nothing special at all.

I'll say what I want, because that my 'friend' is my right and no jumped up septic is ever going to make me do anything, some have tried and they were promptly put in their place.

Like far too many Americans you seem intent on putting your nose in everyone elses business but hate anyone commenting on anything 'Amercan'.
Hypocrisy and pathetic.

Your arrogance and conceit is a disgrace to all those American's who know what dignity and respect are really about, concepts obviously alien to you.

The easiest way to get 'Americans' rioting?
Shut all the burger bars, the US's one offering to world culture!

You were the one injecting "US AMERICANS" should riot.... I simply asked who the hell are you to tell us WHEN WE should riot and that this shows us that your socialist system DOES not WORK. Giving the government 60% in tax and trusting them to pay everything for you is in fact IGNORANT.... Yah you people on the "dole" are hillarious us stupid americans are dumb for not giving all we got to the government? Who said anything about being "special" those are your words, get a grip and then go GET REAL!

And the system in America is working just swell right? The point is we pay taxes, with those taxes we pay for our public services. The problem is when those taxes that we pay for education and health care and social programs gets siphoned off to prop up Capitalist institutions, which are deemed too big to fail. So the money intended to educate our future generations has been passed on to clean up the derivatives created by greedy bankers.

I'm in the UK. A policeman, who is a friend in his late 30's (i.e. very experienced), told me two years ago that he had been receiving 'training for massive civil unrest' for the previous 4 years. So the police have been training for riots for 6 years now. That tells me that what's happening just now economically and politically is contrived.

What is the ultimate agenda?

It really is about time our students 'woke up'. It is ONLY when the student classes and middle classes unite that any kind of change is achieved. Both groups have been drugged literally and metaphorically for over 20 years now. Drugged with illegal street drugs, or prescription medications like prozac, ritalin etc. Minds have been warped with a twisted media perspective that has infiltrated all mass outlets and people became complacent while their rights were being eroded.

The censorship over the UK media has been horrendous ever since Blair's new labour project came to power. There are people in Britain who believe the UK 'doesn't do' propaganda. That's hilarious.....we are among the best in the world at mind bending. Largely it is done by omission....filling the mind with soap opera trivia - encourage the 'politics is boring' mentality etc etc. (Interesting to note this is not being reported in the US - its on every other international news channel.)

It CANNOT be permitted to continue. These rights were NEVER given freely - they were hard fought for by our predecessors.

I don't live in a socialist country, I'm not on the dole and I don't pay 60% tax.
If I did earn enough to be in the 60% tax bracket then I wouldn't mind or complain about it if it was going to what it's supposed to; the NHS and the education system, including providing free University education for those who can't afford it.

I suspect this hghlights one of the basic differences between UK, and possibly European as a whole, mindsets and society, and the USA.
We tend to see things as a collective responsibility and helping each other, US society is based on the individual and their rghts and their duty to support oneself.

An interesting discussion but one for another thread I think.

I think you will find my comments on the US were in response to some provocative posting and comments from an American.

ETA.

I think this post sums things up perfectly;

Typical US hater lol. Ok Im glad you shared your opinion with me and the rest of ATS. All hail the queen lmao blah blah Im not impressed with your little riot. 20 years ago over far less than what is going on now. It was more than a race war in those times. New Yorkers were angry at the police and the system that was put into place by the police of the time.

Race sparked it but of course the MSM covered it in the way you "believe" it to have been. I was there. If you've ever lived in NYC you would know that flipping a police car is a big deal. Over there you get hit with a baton, over you get tazered, hit with batons, maced, gun butted, attacked while you are handcuffed by police and even shot at by rubber bullets.

lol I cant believe the crap you just said but hey everyone is due their opinion, so thank you once again.

Yawn. I'm still waiting for facts on recent American violent revolt. All you've given me so far is a bigoted-race-war from 20 years ago.

Lol silly chavs, I was visiting friends in Kent and some locals chavs tried to "rob" me, I use the word "rob" in a very loose sense, they basically tried to convince me to give them all I had. It was overall a very funny experience that ended with me repeating what they said while smoking down a cigarette and giving them the butt and everyone around them laughing.

the thing is...before the current government got into power they promised they would NOT raise education fees...now theyve been telling everyone for weeks that they are going to raise them and saying that they are disgusted with these violent protests

but people have been protesting peacefully for weeks with the odd 1 or 2 being stupid mostly it was peaceful.

and theyve been ignored the vote went ahead for the raising of fees...so now its got violent

and rightfully so

In the end though you are right.. Americans would never get "angry" over a political issue until we had something that made us soo mad that we could forget about our easily obtained comforts, leave our suburban homes miles from the cities and have a say in something. Out of 300m + people you would think a few hundred thousand to 1-2m people protesting is easily obtained, but it doesn't seem so. And usually the ones that show up are retired or well to do that they can fly to DC for a week to hold a sign.

But only an American can say how Americans are, didn't you know?
