Let's consider how well the various states have done when it comes to effective legislation:

Florida laws:
Women may be fined for falling asleep under a hair dryer, as can the salon owner.
A special law prohibits unmarried women from parachuting on Sunday or she shall risk arrest, fine, and/or jailing.
It is illegal to sing in a public place while attired in a swimsuit.
When having sex, only the missionary position is legal.
You may not fart in a public place after 6 P.M. on Thursdays.

New Jersey Laws:
It is against the law to "frown" at a police officer.
It is against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season.
You may not slurp your soup.
Car dealerships are forbidden from opening on Sunday.

Now these are the kinds of lawmakers we have making decisions for our states. Sad really. Not that the federal government is any smarter or better at this but at least you will know what the law is no matter what state you are in.

"It is against the law for men to knit during fishing season"

REAL men don't knit during fishing season, they fish.
