DARPA and Terrafugia are developing a flying humvee to be used by troops in Afghanistan.
The remarkable vehicle known as the Transformer (or TX) can work as a conventional road-going transport and then take off in to the air using helicopter rotor blades, it is believed that it could be ready for use by troops as early as 2015.
