This is a current slogan used by the company Waste Management.
"Our landfills provide more than 17000 acres of protected land for wildlife."
I saw a dump truck the other day with this slogan on the side of it and contemplated the implications of it.
Before I go any further, I ask you to consider this quote in terms of common sense. Really? This is safe for wild life?
I did a few searches, and it appears that it can be dangerous to build on top of a landfill:

The danger is always there as it leaks toxins over time. So my concern is, how can these be areas that harbor wildlife? What if you hunt and eat
this wildlife? Would you not get the toxins that they have absorbed from their environment? Is this humane for the wildlife, to live in these toxic
environments, or timebombs waiting to happen to future generations?
