Tipping Waiters and Pizza Guys

Donating to charity has absolutely nothing to do with tipping!!

4$ an hour? Thats ridiculous, here in the uk they get around $8 an hour.

I just think it is incredibly rude to expect someone to hand over even more of your hard earned money just for doing the job they were employed to do.

It isn't rude to expect a tip for ensuring somebody has a great experience in a service enviroment.It is called rewarding excellence. Have you ever noticed how much better service is in a normal eatery than at McDonalds. At McDonalds there is no incentive to excell and improve the experience. In a more traditional establishment the wait staff get tips. This is an incentive to excell at their craft. They understand that the better they do the more money they can make. If you take away the tips the waiters start acting like McDonalds employees.

This is the system that provides you with better service at an eatery.

It also helps to keep prices down. If an establishments owner knows he can pay the wait staff less, because the customers make up the difference, then they can keep the price of food down. They can also choose to use this money to hire a better chef. That improves the quality of food. If the food is good customers come back and the wait staff makes even more on tips. This in turn raises the quality of the service. That raises the quality of your overall experience.

Tipping is a way to ensure excellent service. The old wives tell is that it was an acronym for To Insure Prompt Service.

Being expected to tip isn't rude. Being a tight wad is rude.

You do understand that making only minimum wage a lot of these people are the ones getting assistance from charities. So, cut out the middle man and the waste tip your waiter.
