Senate just votes down extending Bush tax cuts

Watching CSPAN-2. Senate just voted down extending the Bush tax cuts 53(yes)-36(no). This was the voted for extending tax cuts for $250,000 and below. The political posturing continues at the expense of the American citizens.

Senate shoots down limited tax-cut extension in Saturday session

Democrats wrote the bill pushing to get the tax cuts extended for those under $250,000 per family. A later bill would seek to extend tax cuts to the wealthier.

Members voted 53-36 for an amendment by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) that would have extended the cuts for individuals with incomes of up to $200,000 and families with incomes of up to $250,000.

This shows you were Republican allegiance lies. Clearly not with the Tea Party voters.

Anybody know yet who voted against this specifically? It does seem that some of the dems had to vote against this as well so who are they? I need to make some harrassing phone calls.

Why???? They voted it down because they want the tax cut across the board.which is a later vote today.

In some areas say in parts of California, NY, etc..$250,000 a year isn't necessarily or exaclty "rich". To most of us in flyover country yes, but these are areas where the average 3 or 4 bedroom home can still be close to or over a million dollars a year.

Oh and by the way, if you make say, under $45,000 or so, how much are you using to invest, or hire people for your small business?

Going back to JFK everytime taxes are reduced government tax revenue goes UP.

I am not big on progressive taxation, or "taxing the rich" just because people by into a lot of class warefare BS. I could understand, maybe, a slightly higher rate starting at say at 1,000,000 a year....but $250,000, especially if that's your combined rate of a couple is too low.

Check into the "FAIR TAX" idea.........

They lacked the 60 votes needed to win this, it was the Republicans that voted NO on extending a tax cut.

The later vote mentioned above only extends tax cuts for the wealthier. Not for the lower income earners.

Lets go back to 2002, when the dollar went a lot further, a gallon of gas cost $1.40. Obama made $259,394 and paid $68,958 in taxes yet he gave $1,050 or 0.4% in charitable deductions. $20 a week. $20 f'n Dollars a week.

It would appear that he did not feel strongly enough about Acorn, NAACP or what ever to personally donate much if at all, but we are expected, no forced, to fund all kinds of groups. Heck, twenty dollars a week is barley enough to keep a radical separatist church afloat.

What does Acorn, NAACP, or 2002 have to do with Senate Republicans voting down an extension of the tax cuts?

I am traveling for business so I haven't follow the debate closely...but the later vote today I beleive is the across the board cut for all income groups.

Oh bullcrap! For 8 freaking years all we heard about from the democrats was how Bush's tax cuts were only for the rich and that he (Bush) was lying when he claimed the middle class benefitted from the same cuts... now suddenly they have done a 180 and without even flinching the argument has gone from "there were no tax breaks for the middle class" to "Oh woe & tears what of the poor middle class who's tax breaks are about to expire?"

If either side, Democrat or Republican, gives two squirts about abything other than shuffling costs off to someone else while grabbing profits (and votes) for themselves, I'll eat my hat.
