Hotels in central Baghdad, used by foreigners and Iraqi officials, have come under fire in the last 30 minutes. Rockets were believed to have been fired at the hotels, and a bystander also reports a car bomb going off outside a mosque. The attacks took place at or near Firdous Square, known for being the location where the statue of Saddam Hussein was torn down.

Initial reports are three people killed or wounded.

A truck was found near the site with 17 rocket launchers and "a crude firing mechanism." It appeared that three rockets had been launched.

A bystander, Ahmed Khayar Abbas said about 7:30 a.m., a minibus approached Firdous Square. "A group of people got off and left. Then, it exploded," Abbas said.
